Why do some pool players bang the cue against the side
of the pool table? (after they miss the shot)

House cue or their own cue...doesn't matter....
they take out their anger out with the cue.

They missed the shot...not the cue!

I've been doing cue repairs for ~10yrs.
They bring to me lots of business.
Maybe, I should not care about the hackers.

Everybody get upset, When you miss a shot, You KNOW
you should of made. It makes more sense to me,
To ask yourself questions like...Did I overcut/undercut
the shot...Did I hit it too hard.... Did I poke at the cue ball
or Did I stroke smoothly thru the cueball?

Ofcourse, On some soft shots...you have table roll off....
some tables more..some tables less...it's part of the game.

Split second anger reactions. I'm as calm as they come and while I never did anything like that in pool I did cuss one time in a softball game after popping out. The ump called me on it and I told him that he didn't need to say anything else because I felt like an idiot for doing it.

I've seen guys break cues over their knee after missing, smack it on the floor or the table. I even saw one guy throw a brand new $1500 Schon across the parking lot like a javelin after losing. I don't get it.

About 2 months ago I missed a shot while practicing at home and snapped my year old Schon LTD cue in half.

Why'd I do it.........cause I was pissed off.

Do I ever wanna do it again.....no

All the Korean guys I play 3c with tap the shaft on the rail before they shoot- and after they chalk- they all use house cues.

Bizarre, I tell you. I just can't figure it out. Think they are knocking extra chalk off the tip? It it either that or some pagan exercise.

One of my friends here turned his back on a Predator BK2 he had just bought, and turned around to see some guy smacking it on the table next to him according to Korean billiard custom. Put a couple dents in the bottom of the shaft, not too bad. Still sucks on a new cue!

When I was a kid my dad (who was, and is, pretty good) told me to tap the cue on the bottom of the blinders to knock off the extra chalk. I don't do it anymore, but I do pay attention to how much chalk I have on the tip.

He never owned a high-dollar custom though, if he did I think he would have been more hesitant to hit the shaft against the table
