I used to play with a 314 on my Schon and decided to commit to a standard Schon shaft. I sent it to Evan Clarke to have it taken down to 12.75mm with the same Schon taper. It worked out great for me.
My favorite shaft size is 12.75mm also and if I used a regular shaft that would be the size I would prefer.

I've played with predator shafts for years and I ran across an OB-1 FS that had trim rings installed by my cue maker that matched my cue and I decided to give it a try to see if I liked the OB-1 shaft better than my predator shafts.

I set up long cut shots using english and both the OB-1 and the Predator 314-2 performed the same. The Predator seems to hit a little harder than the OB-1 shaft, but I could play with either type shaft and i'd be happy. I don't think you can go wrong buying a predator or an OB-1 shaft if you want a low deflection shaft.

Shot around with it again tonight. Shot much better but importantly I shot more consistent with it. Shots I missed were all somewhat similiar. My biggest problem is still though is I am having a harder time with cue ball control since having the shaft turned down. I will continue to shoot with it and work on my game and see if I can find that happy medium.

One of my favorite drills for this (just a very simple one) is just to lag for about five minutes with the new shaft...don't just try and hit the rail but try to stop it at certain spots on the table... then even go two rails so you get a feel for the firmer hits...then use middle left and right to go down table and come back two diamonds over from where you started....this drill for me at least lets me get dialed in a little quicker when using something different

I had my Ob-1 shaft turned from the stock 12.75 mm to around 12.3 mm ... Played with it today and it is so different... Thanks for any input you guys may have.

That is a huge change. Next time you will cut a bit less off...

Can't put no wood back on that MFer!

HaHa, I know that one being a finish carpenter! Never cut wood trim/crown to short!

The cue maker turned the shaft down just a little more than I wanted. I wanted it right at 12.5 and its a little less than that. I am guessing its down to 12.25, 12.3, somewhere in there. Could be as high at 12.45, but it feels smaller. Wish I had some digital machinist calipers to gauge it accuratley.

Sometimes I never learn the lesson, if it isn't broke don't fix it. Many times I like trying something new to see if I like it better.
