Hail to the King!

I have looked at this case three times now. There is so much SERIOUS work on this that it defies description.

If one were to make a comparison of North American case makers who build tube style tooled cases and make a list then Al King would be in one of the two top spots along with Rusty Melton in my opinion.

The attention to detail, the custom features, the tight construction, the sheer labor. Whatever Al charged for this case it wasn't enough. This is a man who respects the word CUSTOM and honors it with amazing work.

Sick case. Could you put more pictures? Interior of the body and pockets. Thanks.

Here's a few more pics of the case:

That is a great looking case. Now it needs a python wrapped Hightower Custom cue to go in it. :)

I admit to being a little biased when it comes to the brand of cue, and I also play with a python wrapped cue myself.

Hail to the King

Great case Al & Tro. anyone should buy this case, despite TRO on it. you will get action anywhere in the world. just tell them your Tro, he has a reputation that defies explanation. CHOKE. see ya soon @ WCCS. don "the SUREMANATER" aka Sureman Cues

When I decided I wanted a case made, I called Al and told him he was the guy. I've owned a number of his cases in the past and I'd kept two...one for my daily case and a 4x6 for storage. But, I wanted a case that I designed.

So....I told Al what I HAD to have. The case HAD to be black and have silver hardware. I HAD to have a 22" long pocket to house a two-piece jump handle. I HAD to have a 4" pocket with top and side access for my smaller items. I HAD to have an adjustable back strap. "Tro" HAD to be somewhere on the case.

Those were my MUST haves.

I own a brown 2x4 of his that has snakeskin on the interior of the lid, and I like that, so I mentioned that it would be nice to do something with snake. We talked about options and I told him I liked how diamonds looked inlayed in the pockets. He said okay and we settled on snake diamonds and snake inside the lid.

Here's the fun part. Once he knew my MUST haves, I told him to do whatever he wanted with the rest of the case...design, stamping, etc. I also told him I did not want to see in progress pics or pics when it was done. I wanted to see it for the first time when it arrived at my house and I opened it.

Well, it arrived. I opened it.

Mr. Kinghorn went above and beyond on this case. It was everything I had hoped for and a lot more. The long pocket looks like it goes on forever! The small pocket is EXACTLY what I had in mind. The embossed leather he used for the body looks great. Snake....did someone say snake?

On a scale of 1-10 in every category...design, execution, customer service, being a decent human being...I'd rate Mr. Kinghorn and his cases a solid 861.

Thank you, Al.

Update: Due to life throwing me and my wife a curveball, I'm now selling this case. I'm using the proceeds to fund a NEW tribute case for my family from.....Mr. Kinghorn. I added more pics on the 2nd page of this thread that detail the interior and pockets. I am in no way unsatisfied with Al's work and would recommend him to anyone that is in search of a custom case. I hate to part with this case, so if someone would like to donate some $$ towards my tribute case, I can keep this one :) Just sayin'....

Al Kinghorn is not only a top notch leatherworker he also is a maker who understands the true meaning of the word custom.

Fantastic case!!!

Lol Don, thanks...I think!

It's doubtful I'll be able to make it to the WCCS. Our boy's delivery date got moved up from Nov 16 to Oct 4 due to some complications, so I'll be with him and my wife on the 5th.

I'll be there next year for sure.

Al is definitely a great maker.. What I don't understand I why is the case for sale???

The case is only for sale to fund a tribute case for my daughterthat my wife and I lost in June of this year. I've had a number of people ask me why I'm having a tribute case and cue made, so I'll give the info here:

My wife and I foud out earlier this year that we were going to have twins. The due date was 11/15. About 19 weeks into the pregnancy, we found out we were having a boy and a girl. The doctor saw a sac of fluid on our girl's neck. As time progressed and through multiple tests and ultrasounds, our daughter was diagnosed with Trisomy 13. It was also discovered that she had a hole in her heart and that her brain was not developing beyond her brain stem. We lost her near the end of June.

Our boy seems to be fine, but my wife had to be admitted into the hospital 2 weeks ago, at 29 weeks..11 weeks premature. She's been there ever since and the doctors are trying to keep her from delivering until 34 weeks, which is 10/4, so she has 3 more weeks in the hospital if all goes well.

So, as we were dealing with these issues, I started to think of a way I could remember my daughter and also have her and my son at my side.

I decided to have a tribute case made with her name on it and some other words of rememberance. I'll have a cue made to honor my son with his name and birthdate on it. Once these are done, my son and daughter will always be together as the cue and case will be my only players and will never leave my side.

That is the only reason I am selling my King case and Lambros cue.

If anyone else asks why, I'll direct them to this thread.

Regards,
Mike

Wow mike.. That's a touching story... Hope all goes fine with your wife...and ur new baby

Thank you. All things considered, she's doing well and they're monitoring our boy multiple times a day and he's passing with flying colors.

Again, thank you for the kind words.

Mike you are in my thoughts. We went through something similar with our second daughter last year and it was scary. I have faith everything will turn out great.

Thanks John. So far, so good.

Mike,
That's so sad, I'm so sorry to hear about that, it's got to be heart breaking. I can't imagine going through something like that. Sending prayers your way sir.

Thank you, Rusty. It's sad, but my wife and I have had a lot of time to deal with the trials of this pregnancy and we're lucky to have a solid group of family and friends for support.

I tell people daily that no one goes through life without scars and this is what life decided to throw our way.

My wife and I believe that everything will be okay in the end.

Many thanks to everyone that has sent well wishes and prayers our way via the forums, phone calls, and PMs.

Regards,
Mike

Thanks to everyone that has been keeping us in their thoughts.

My wife gave birth to our boy yesterday morning. James Hendrik immediately began to cry and use those lungs

He's in the NICU right now at 4lb 8oz and breathing on his own. Doctor and nurses say he's in excellent shape for being nearly 9 weeks premature and they're going to try to feed him formula tomorrow.

I feel very blessed and extremely lucky.

It was a bittersweet event as we had our sweet Katherine Jean baptized and a prayer service for her. My wife and I know she's at peace.

Again, thank you Azers for your kindness.

Regards,
Mike
