Hairspray

I don't remember where I heard or read that it might help with certain masse/artistic 3c shots to use hairspray...or was it silicone???

Was I hallucinating again-or is there something to this??

for artistic billard, they often use silicon, on the cushions , when the cloth isn't hot new. (it looks like a kind of sponge impregnated with silicon . can't remember the brand, but i will be able to tell you accuratly later , by PM)
sometime, they use it on the balls too , but very rarely , only when they are a bit old.

This coat of silicon is efficient for some hours . but warning : when you play 3 cushion on a table with cushions coated with such products, the effect can be detected during weeks. the game is really modified by the silicon, not natural. but it can be a way to make a table with an old cloth to play "longer" ...

On older cloth they try to make the outcome (last cushion) a bit longer. The older the cloth, the shorter the balls will rebound from the rail

And with silicon they try to solve the problem for awhile.
I prefered to clean the balls (polishing) and to clean the rails after each set.

We're talking about 2 or maybe 3 different things here.

1.Table/ cloth condition
2. Artistic Compitition
3. Exhibition Crazy Shots

In a perfect world all tables would be cleaned every hour and the cloth changed every 2-3 months in a public carom room. Assuming regular play. That only happens where carom is understood and played extensively.

I'm not sure of the rules for Artistic 3 Cushion competition but I'm sure if its allowed the balls would be wiped with silicone on many if not most shots. Maybe all. I'm also sure that at least for the World Championship the cloth would be newly installed, so no reason to add any more slide to the cloth. Its good.

For Exhibition, shooting absolutely crazy impossible shots, silicone is required. I hear fuel oil is even better.
