Anyone seen this, The Great Hal, calling out Johnny Archer. Made me laugh when i read this. I have been reading alot on Hal over the net lately, and man he sounds like a great guy. He is my hero for him sharing his aiming systems, unlike the pro's who really don't tell you what they do. Cole.

When players write to you, asking how to aim, your pat answer is to say that you get three feet back from the shot, then you shoot parallel lines. That is all hogwash. That is not how you aim. Why don't you level with these recreational players? You use the aiming system whereby you aim the center of the cue ball at the edge of the object ball for any and all shots. You know exactly what I am talking about. We both know about placing the cue tip either left or right of cue ball center, and you know why we do that. Get honest for a change. These recreational players are no threat. Tell them the truth. - Hal Houle

I think Hal's username here is 'Sonia'. He comes off as just a tad abrasive, but certainly has spent lots of time analyzing aiming and seems to enjoy sharing.

Sonia yeah that is him, i got a PM from him telling me to call him. He is a tad abrasive, but i would be too from people bringing him down etc... he is a good guy from what i have read, one guy said he spent two days with him and he had to drive a certain amount of miles and he wouldn't even let this guy buy him dinner or take a penny from him, now that is a good host. How old is he now, 87 may be wrong.

He is definitely in his 80's.
Hal is a great guy! Sometimes it's tough to see when conversing over the internet but I have spoken with him several times and it is always enjoyable.

This is also a guy who used to run around with Ralph Greenleaf. He has some funny stories, so Cole, if you find the time, give him a call. You won't regret it.

so i was right, i knew him and Ralph Greenleaf were road partners. I might just have to call him, although i have read alot about him over the net and i know thats not the same as chatting with him. Cole.

It doesn't necesarily mean that someone isn't telling the truth. It's entirely possible that Hal did share his aiming system with Johnny Archer and that Johnny just used his own.

I think he's saying it's his system that he uses. Or rather that he doesn't use the system that Hal describes.

I'd be willing to wager that what Johnny did is, take what Hal showed him, tweaked it, and now calls it his own.
Not right, not wrong, but that would be my guess.

trying to see this from both sides, i'm inclined to think they both feel they are right.

to begin with,,,i can't see SO many pros going to HH for advice. i simply don't think there are that many pros out there who would seek it. i think maybe HH OFFERED advice, and the pros graciously listened, nodding their head. i think HH took this as meaning they were taking his advice, when all the time he was merely saying something they already knew, but just in a different way. i see this scenario happening easily.

i also feel many many many players are very closed and secretive about their technique, and have grown up in the enviroment of "learn from the streets and don't expect me to help". so i applaud HH for his effort to communicate his knowledge to others,,,but there are way too many ways for people to aim,

and maybe HH has the ability to deconstruct what the pros do instinctively.

If you are courteous and respectful he has more info to impart than you can probably handle in one conversation. He is a gentleman who is absolutly adamant in his aiming beliefs--and they work!! All 6 or 7 of them. Have fun and remember he does enjoy stirring the pot.

Actually, all 20-something of them. LOL, yeah, over two years, Hal has had my head so full I've had aiming systems running out of my ears! I have, however, enjoyed every conversation I've had with him whether it's to learn another system or to just see how he's doing and trade pool room stories with him.

By the way, Hal has never, to my knowledge profitted one cent from what he's willingly taught. The only thing he ever asked of me was to pass on his systems to those players willing to learn.

I thought it was near the 30's, but the main thing is that all the aiming systems he teaches they all boil down to the same thing. Anyways if you read this Hal, thanks for sharing ......
