Hall of Fame Nominations

Last year, the Derby City Classic started an annual tradition by having the St. Louis Louie Roberts Award to be given yearly to the most entertaining pool player at the week-long event. Last year, Alex P. was the lucky recipient, and I think there was a little cash, if I am not mistaken. Louie was quite a character and loved by many.

I am impressed that the BCA Hall of Fame Committee is allowing the "People's Choice" into their process of selection, and it is just as simple as a click of the mouse. :)

I have known Grady Mathews all my life. If there is anybody who deserves to go into the Hall of Fame, it is Grady.

Grady has devoted his whole life to pool ever since he's been a kid. I had the privilege of knowing Grady back in the early '70s. For a lot of young people who don't know Grady, Grady could play all games, but he was unbeatable playing one-pocket. I have seen him play a lot of times in a lot of places and never, ever was afraid to bet his dough. He never needed a backer. He always liked to play on his own money, and the higher, the better. He has always been my kind of guy.

Even today, he is still hitting 'em pretty darn good. The last time we played, he beat me playing one-pocket in Derby City Classic, knocking me out of the tournament.

I will always have a special place in my heart for Grady, and I am proud that he considers me his friend.

You tellum Keith. Grady Mathews has at one time or another beaten every top One Pocket player of his era or any other era. The inovations Grady has made to better the sport of billiards are too numerous to mention so I will only mention his latest. With the help of Greg Sullivan, Grady has come up with what will turn out to be the future of pool tournaments across the nation.

The 2004 Derby City Classic will have a $30,000 Ring Game attached to it. Grady has invited 6 of the top pool players on the planet. All of which will be posting $5,000 and the last man in the Ring Game is the winner. The interest this Ring Game concept has generated is phenomenal.

Grady Mathews is not only a world class pool player/promoter, Grady is a world class person.

No one deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame any more than Grady Mathews.

I sure hope they don't do anybody like Pete Rose. Cause if they keep ya out for gambling in the Billiard Hall, it would be a sparce field. lol. As for Grady.......he should have already been in for a multiple reason. When I was learning one pocket........he was THE MAN! I use to watch him as much as I could. Grady has forgoten more about one pocket than most people these days even will know! You got my vote Grady!
