Hammond, LA.... Shooters or Legends?

Wife and I are planning some road trip travels. Will be in Hammond, LA for 2-3 days or longer if we're having fun. I Googled 'billiards' and found Shooters and Legends.
Does anyone here have any experience with these, or any other spots for playing in Hammond? We're not looking for 'action', just some relaxed playing on good equipment, preferably with good food and drink.

We're not interested in traveling to nearby cities, especially New Orleans on this trip. Our travels will take us there and other spots eventually. For now, I'm interested in Hammond.

Thanks in advance.

Neither. See if Stray Cats is still open in Ponchatoula (real close to Hammond, within a mile or two). I haven't been there in years, but it was a fun little daiquiri bar with two 9' diamonds and a row of diamond bar tables. All were kept in good condition. i hope they are still doing well!

We visit my wife's sister in Patterson often. Couple years ago we met a neighbor of theirs at a place in Morgan city called Pool Do's, and had a really nice time. Diamond tables and friendly people. If you go near there, worth a stop. We were hoping to meet a local forum member there, but saddly they didn't get back in town till the day we were leaving.

Yes, that's who we were hoping to meet, but timing changed and he was coming home as we were leaving. Maybe next time.

Close enough! I'll give it a look. Thanks.

Morgan City is a bit out of our way for this trip, but we'll keep this place in mind for future travels. Thanks.!

I might have to check Stray Cats out on my way home from work one day this week - if I do I'll provide an update. I haven't been to Shooters/Legends but if I remember one of those was an unimpresive space in an abandoned hotel, and the other one was servicible.

In the area I'm most familiar with Wherehouse in Covington. 7x Diamond Bar Boxes + 1x Diamond 9', all refelted about a month ago, free pool on the barboxes from 3-6PM every day and all day Sunday/Monday.

Do it! If you're looking for action there was a father and son that were in there a lot gambling. I think the father owned a pawn shop and the son claimed to be a bounty hunter... From what I saw, neither played over 600 speed, but they liked to bet it up.

The place in the back of the hotel was Nightcaps I believe. It was a little sketchy from the jump but they were trying to make a nice place. Rumor is that the place has been sold and the clientele has went way downhill. This was a report from one person best I recall. Unless this report is countered, probably a no go with the wife or a quick scout alone first.

I went to a building with a "Shooters" sign on it a month or so ago. Hours it was supposed to be open. It was closed and looked like remodeling going on.

I just moved east of Hammond about ten miles so I am very interested in this thread myself. NightKaps had looked promising a few years back but covid drug it down I believe.

If you're 10 miles East of Hammond (Robert?) maybe Wherehouse is your best bet without crossing bridges to get to Buffalos, especially if you're North of I-12. Two of the new owners are pretty avid players so that became the North Shore hangout.

East is east and west is west, apparently I need a tattoo! I am west of Hammond, on the Baton Rouge side in the Hungarian Settlement/Albany area. I was raised mostly in Baton Rouge and still orient from there!

I do have to go thataway, corner of I-12 and 190, every month or two. I'll try to check the wherehouse out next time I go that way. Meantime, still searching for a place in this general area. Thanks for your help, any additional would be appreciated! "Let's see, this is the wiping hand, this is the eating hand. Turn wiping hand to get to the crossroad, eating hand to get to the sled, wiping hand to get to 190, wiping hand again when I get to 190 to get to The Wherehouse!

Thanks, nothing to it! About thirty-five miles which still makes it closer than Buff's. Two Sisters is a daytime option if it is still there too. Been years but I have been there a half-dozen times or so. I like Buffalo's but it can be a long ride with the unknown traffic issues particularly on the twelve mile.

Main thing, I am hoping to find an old fart place where silver hair doesn't make me a target. Never been to Lacy's but I would like to check it out. Might be a place for the OP too. I haven't heard anything but good things about them and nonsmoking is nice with COPD.

Thanks Again!

On that side Trick Shots (Formerly Drew and Willy’s) is close and is on the Parish border, All 7’ Diamond bar boxes. Billiard Brothers on Exit 10 in Denham has a few 9’ tables but I forget the brand.

Lacy’s is becoming Buffalo’s 3.

Lacy’s is becoming Buffalo’s 3.
I liked Lacy's when I was out there. Very nice room. At a bar table tournament they had a break and run pot that was at $2k. 10-ball on the 10' diamond. I bought 50 tickets thinking they'd have a lot of interest. I don't think they sold 100 total! I got my ticket drawn and made a quick $600 ;)

Ok swung by Stray Cats on the way home today.

Equipment: 1x Diamond 9’ table with 4.5” (or maybe even 4.25”) pockets and 8x Diamond bar boxes with the league cut 4.75” pockets.

At 5:45PM there’s a few people shooting around, a couple fooling around on the 9’ table and 2 guys just practicing on the bar boxes.

The 9’ table looks good; the bar boxes look a bit dirty, but look good by “Louisiana Daiquiri Shop” standards. No tears or gross stains, just a bit dirty.

There’s a bit of a bleach smell but I also notice about 10 freshly cleaned daiquiri machines lined up down the hall so maybe that has something to do with it.

Overall there’s maybe 15 people here, 4-5 here for pool and another 10 or so just enjoying a drink after a long week of work. Either by design or by incredible coincidence the bar staff appears to be all younger attractive women.

I like the term "Louisiana Daiquiri Shop standards". Quite a bit more genteel than the old bars where the bugs were cleared off the table occasionally with a broom or the biker bars with tables that I wouldn't even put my hand on to make a bridge today!

I assume that JTompilot meant Lacy's is becoming like Buff's not actually taken over by Buffalo but I don't know. After moving due to hurricanes I only get by Buffalo's a couple times a year. I don't think he would tackle another place that far from what he has now but I don't know.

It’s on James Leone’s Facebook page that he signed the lease for Lacy’s.

Agree it seems odd for him to take on a place in Chalmette, managing things from a distance doesn’t seem to be his strong suit.
