Handicap Tournament Mistake

What should be done if a Tournament Director/Owner makes a mistake giving out the wrong handicap in the 4th round on winners side.
About 32 players & about $250.00 1st place prize with a $350.00 1st place prize in the Calcutta.
Which the person who was wronged had bought themselves in the Calcutta.
All people involved are good people but I just think it was handled wrong.
How do you think it should have been handled?

You as a player should make sure the handicap is correct. If you fail to do so anything that happens after that is on you. Not much of a discussion IMHO.

Based on the information you have provided I think it should have been handled the way that other guy handled that other thing that other time. You see what I'm saying?

Whoever starts a thread about a mistake in a pool tournament should pay whatever was gained/lost by all parties involved.

They were told by the Owner/Director what the handicap was What should they ask for a Notarized letter?

I would agree. Can't do anything about it in the middle of a tourney. Too late.

It's only one event this person was lower than should be.

they should go with the standard solution for all things handicapped.....they should cry more!

Cmon Tony, there is always a tournament board up somewhere that shows the handicaps of the players. I always check the spots or ask the person I'm shooting what their speed is.

My guess as to what happened is that a persons handicap was established but when a match was called out the director messed up what the spot was supposed to be. Is this what happened?

You have to just suck it up. Shit happens, this is a part of playing in handicap tournaments. It might have been a mistake to play you with the wrong handicap, but it would be flat out wrong to place any penalty on the player that advanced. If it wasn't a purposeful act, the only thing you can do is get an apology and a promise to do a better job next time. You should also make sure you are playing under the right handicap next time you play.

Sorry there was no tournament board posted.
It was on a 8.5x11 sheet of paper held by the tournament director.
The player was asked & they said they didn't know their handicap.
I just wanted to know what would be the best reasonable solution to fix or make the situation feel better.
After all if the player had a possibility of winning $600/$700.00 with 3 more wins wouldn't you be upset?
I guessing between the Entry & Calcutta the investment was about $55.00-$60.00.

Yes 4th round of tournament on winners side is when the Handicap mistake was made.

Instead of one person giving a spot he was getting a spot.

Sounds like your typical handicap tournament... Do you expect a writen apology? lol Jesus you're something else.

By the 4th round shouldn't he know what his handicap is ?

You would think so But when asked he said he didn't know. (He was new to the tournament)

(DirtyJersey) It's not like he wouldn't let anybody look at the chart. The player was just taking his word for it, He is not the kind of person that would do underhanded things.

(Cleary) I think I would want an apology Since a $700.00 prize was involved.
I just thought maybe the player that was wronged should have received free entry for the $25 & $40 invested.
Maybe I'm out of line here but that's was my thinking. That's why I asked the forum for some smart input.
