For those that don't know, Archie Karas is famous for running his bankroll up to $40 million playing pool, poker and craps during a two year streak in Las Vegas, whereupon he proceeded to lose it all back. He's fallen on hard times now, and he's been caught cheating at cards at various casinos in Nevada and California.

I remember talking to a couple of short stops in portland 5 or so years ago saying that JRB could beat a couple of them getting 9-8. He doesnt play bad. Could beat most of us for the dough for sure.

I have a long story where JRB was involved. JRB was playing Joey Gray $100 a game one pocket. JRB got all the breaks and winner was first person to make a ball after the break. JRB wanted to work on his break.

A poker player named Crazy Mike walked into Pool Sharks and asked JRB if he wanted to play 300-600 blinds HU limit holdem at Bellagio. I think JRB said he wanted to play pool but would play poker later.

The long story is when Crazy Mike who had never played pool before and got into action with Chip Compton while waiting for JRB to go play poker. Craziest thing I have ever seen on a pool table.

A horse player used to back players against me at snooker back in the 80s.
...once in a while I would play him one game...he got a thousand to one on the money.
When big gamblers come to pool halls, it can get exciting.
 
Bobby can play One Pocket and don't think he can't. I go back a long way with him. We used to play 100-200 a game over 20 years ago and he was tough action then. I gave him 9-8 and he put a lot of heat on me. I think I may have come out slightly ahead overall, but it was always close. I could still play back then. I wouldn't even consider playing him even now, unless it was Bank Pool.

Bobby is a great guy to gamble with. He never tries to shark anyone, just tries to beat you fair and square. He is a dangerous guy to gamble with since he is not afraid to bet it up and has no quit in him. I think all his years at high stakes poker has seasoned him as a gambler. I've got a lot of respect for the guy.

Not playing the way he did in that video from above. If all goes as planned he won’t have as many shots and his feet would be tired from always shooting on his tippy toes.

That being said he seems like a decent guy for a degenerate poker playing pool player.

I don’t understand this. He won a WSOP bracelet at a $5000 event and came in 2nd in a $50,000 event. To say he isnt good at poker is a bit silly. I’m sure you’re better than he is, but that doesnt mean he’s bad. Maybe you play him heads up all the time?

Pardon my derailment, but why would you only gamble/play banks and no other game? Is there some sort of strategical advantage in the making? I ask because I figure it is something similar to match coming up with Bergman and Harriman.

A good player knows it’s death to be predictable...’crazy’ is often an act.
...the trick is not to fall for your own act...some players end up broke
