What a star-studded cast of players! The one-pocket tournament is in progress, and there have already been some great matches played, a few upsets and a few big wins. Cliff Joyner is in the house. I'm not sure why he wasn't in Reno, but he showed up for the Hard Times Jamboree!
UPA Touring Pro Mike Davis lost to Young Gun Amar Kang. Amar faces Veteran Bobby Hunter next round.
Buddy Hall defeated Santos. Poor Santos, I read he had his PFD cue stick stolen in Reno. Don't know if this is true. Local player Billy Palmer is waiting in the wings and plays Buddy next. This is a pick 'em, if I was inclined to bet.
Jose "Amang" Parica against Tony Chohan, clearly two great one-pocket mechanics, will be a great match to see. I hear Tony is on top of his game, but don't underestimate the leader of the Philippino Invasion. I'd hate to put a line on this match-up because it's close.
AzBilliards' JHendry is having a great run in the one-pocket event and will face Ronnie Allen who is heralded as a one-pocket champion. Two lifelong pool players giving it their all.
Philippino Marlon Manalo, who just won the Reno Open, came to Sacramento to play, but according to the Main Page feature story, he forfeited his first match and withdrew from the tournament.
I'm hoping that some of you West Coast members will provide a few tidbits for those of us stuck at home. This looks like a fantastic Jamboree at Hard Times, and this is only the beginning. After the one-pocket tournament concludes, they go right back at it again and will begin the 9-ball event!
