Hard Times

After reading the on line BD article and seeing the picture of the 7 players out of 18 being from the Phillipines in dark suits, it reminded me of the great early US players like Balsis, Crane, Lassiter, Mosconi, Greenleaf, Hoppe and the like, they always wore suits. I realized this group of Phillipino players grew out of societies pool halls when times are tough just like the the group of US players did when times were tough. When times are tough, it seems the best is brought out in us all. The US players can not lay back on their laurels anymore if they want to get on the HILL.

This also brings to mind about human nature....I recall a conversation I had with a fellow union worker once about how the membership was "a lot smarter in the old days, when times were hard," and the answer to why that was, had to do with NECESSITY. When things are good, humans probably get fat and complacent, or take the easy way out...
