Hardtimes, Swannee, Chris and Greg controversy

This just came up in the other thread, A possible solution would be to have the opponent be responsible for marking a player's score. There is precedent in the rules for this. Where matches are played with an "area" referee the opponent is to be the acting ref.

In this scenario, Greg should get credit for the game after the fact because it would have been Chris's own fault for not having marked it. And it wouldn't fall on Chris to have to make some moral decision under pressure in the heat of the moment.

Comments like this gets RED!!

lol, if u cannot see it yourself then u are a joke too, all ppl on here wanna do is ***** and moan about why pool never gets any mainstream exposure yet all pool does is shoot itself in the foot on a daily basis and u can read all about it right on here

i have read the *****ing and moaning for a decade now and nothing has changed, for whatever reason when people are playing pool or around pool they feel the need to do shady stuff, from players to td's all the way up to promoters, it is ridiculous

Please, like that shady stuff doesn't happen in all other facets of life?????
Just Pool!!
Like you don't see politicians and corporations screwing the average man and woman
over every day.
When they get caught they just have to pay a (not even burdensome) fine, not even admitting to any guilt.
You want to get all self-righteous what message is this teaching kids?
I get sick of people acting like pool is so full of evil and underhandedness when the
truth is there are many, many other sports and areas in life that are much, much worse.:angry::angry::angry::angry: You want to talk about a joke!

You are spewing negativity. You are the problem right now. NOT POOL or this THREAD

Go take a look in the mirror then dunk your head in the toilet and tell us how you feel.

It took me forever to get to sleep last night after reading through these posts(well, the other thread). I didn't know until late last night what transpired after the "controversy", nor that there was a thread on here. I'm glad I did, because had I typed last night I most likely would have been banned.

First let me say I'm proud to consider Chris my friend. I'm even prouder that he plays with the cue I made for him. While I support a good discussion, and there are certainly two ways to look at this, I don't understand why it couldn't have been kept completely civil.

Argument one's fact is that he didn't do anything wrong according to the rules. There is absolutely no debate over this. Greg spoke with the tournament director and a ruling was made. Greg didn't choose to make a huge deal over this, AZ'rs(some) did. Mr. Harada showed a lot of class in handling it in the way he did.

Argument two is that he should have forfeited the match when all this was brought to light. NOW, I wasn't there but I do know there were several people trying to tell him what to do. Ultimately it was his decision, but it would be nice to hear from THEM, considering the heavy influence they had.

Hindsight here is 20/20 and I hope this just ends up being a learning experience for Chris, not something that dissuades him from playing pool. Everyone at Stiix's in Ventura looks forward to seeing this young man when they walk into the pool room.....everyone.

Lastly, for those of you who want to be mad at a 16 year old for winning because of a rule, I offer that you petition the USA Olympic hockey team to forfeit their win over the Soviet Union. You see, that goal would have counted in the NHL....where most, if not all, the players play when not in the Olympics.

I agree with what you've said, and this example says it all.
Unfortunately the self appointed Ethic and Morality police
on AZ will just come on here and say that's comparing
Apples and Oranges because it doesn't fit the outcome
they want for this discussion.

That's why I said in another post, Chris should just pay them no mind!

Exactly, I had to quit posting and reading or I might have got banned myself.
This incident had zero to do with ethics or morality . To call that young man out and flame him like some did..... That's the lack of morality and ethics.

What round of the event did this occur? Was it a money round or even close?

I think the kid did fine, its not his decision and he doesnt have to give up a gsme

That said I have many times given my opponent advantages wihout any expectation of reciprosity. Few weeks ago I am gambling for 50 bucks. My opponent is sharked by a spectator when I am up 4-2 going to 7. I said rerack I will break. If I make the 9 it spots. Later when its hill hill my opponent sharks me, whistling as I shoot the 6 ball. This is after I asked him to stop. Got back down to shoot and he did it again. I know all his moves to the point I even expect it to happen. I get funny on the 7, then the 8 and end up bad on the 9 and miss. I just pay hom off. Decide this guy is bad action and commit that I wont play him ever again. Life is to short to play with assholes. I'm up on him, he knows he was wrong...nothing to discuss, he just doesnt care. If he ever had a heart to take tgat game on the road, someone would throw him in a dumpster, not my problem.

:frown:

I wish I wouldn't think so much sometimes.

Now.....what if a player marks up two games instead of one, is it your opponent's responsibility to
correct the error? What if no one notices until a few racks later?

Now what?

Believe me, this can possibly happen just like forgetting to mark up a game.:o

This situation that happened at the Swannee tournament at hardtimes having to do with Chris and Greg is extremely unfortunate.
A lot of people had some horrible things to say about a 16-year-old kid, A kid that is only 2 months into being 16, a kid that all he
wants to do is play pool and be good at it. Sure he didn’t make the most sportsmanlike decision, BUT, he was told to take the win
by 2 grown men, adults that have been playing pool for longer than he has been alive, he took their advice and they told him
That it was Greg’s responsibility to mark his own score and that he should take the win. He took their advice and it came back to bite
him In the ASS….. So let me ask all of you something, if you were a 16-year-old kid and A professional pool player and tournament
Director told you that the win was yours, would you have made A different decision???? Keeping in mind that the 16-year-old
kid was under a lot of stress at that point, he didn’t know Which end was up, he was getting advice from to many people, so he
Followed the advice of a professional pool player.

My name is Brett and I work at Stiix billiards, The pool room that Chris plays out of, let me tell you about the the Chris that I
and all the regulars players at Stiix know.

I have known Chris since he was 13 years old, his uncle brought into the pool room to teach him the game, unable to even make a bridge
When he first started, he kept coming back day after day after day, All summer long, he really has a love and fascination for the game.
He started playing with many of the regular players and getting better in Leaps and bounds as everybody tried to help him. He is
A very good kid, well mannered, very polite, good student and a very good athlete, he hopes to attend college on pool scholarship.
He works very hard at his game and puts in the practice time, I see him in the pool room 5 or 6 days a week usually, he is always
Looking to play the best players that are available to him at the time he is in there. And though this incident has him a little down and
bummed out (and rightfully so) he still wants to play at hardtimes as much as he can. So please don’t judge him on this one incident,
When you see him at hardtimes feel free to say hi, shake his hand and get to know him and hopefully you will come to think
Very highly of him as we do here in Ventura. I am sure he will take this whole experience and learn from it, grow from it and become
a better person Because of it….. He is not perfect, he is just 16. Thank you for taking the time to read this and a big thanks and props
to Greg Herada for being understanding and a class act, pool needs more people like you with.

Thanks for sharing a side of this young man that we did not know. At least most of us didn't know much of anything about him.

Good on you!

JoeyA
