Harvey Martin Materials?

I’ve played with a bunch of them. Seen 2 ivory handle ones. There’s 2 things that stand out to me, one-they all play horrible. #2 I absolutely love them. I sure wish I bought one in the early 90’s when I had my chance to-they weren’t too expensive. Great cues and history.

No way that joint is right...buttcap looks much too new/ clear.
You may be right. I'm no forensic scientist. I will tell you IMO there's no indication of a mod/rework.
If you haven't read all comments, I believe cueman gave me some grief for thinking all wasn't original, even though some had questions.

I don't know and frankly don't care much. I didn't buy it to sell. What could I possibly make. $50.

I just threw it up to get expert opinions. You may be an expert. Not saying you're not.

Since then another Martin fell into my hands. I've occasionally looked around for about 20 years.
When it rains it pours.

Now I have 2.

I didn't play but a few minutes with the one pictured. It was in poor health.
The 2nd one.. I have played some, maybe 3or5 hours total.
The guy I got it off of went to a 3Cushion tournament right after he offered to sell it to me and played the entire tournament with it.
He came in deep in the money. Forget where he landed and forget the lineup but it wasn't a cakewalk. Plus he's got no tables to practice with.

My experience with that cue is .. Yes it's different, but once you get the hang of it, it's really fun to see what its got.

Now you got me boiling. I'm putting away my DD's for the next week and see what I think.

BTW I'm not sure if this cue is for pool or carom. It's a little different taper. Not a cone, not a pro. I like that BTW.

That’s a good point. What was it built for? It’s not really a pool cue, even the early Bushka’s we’re more “pool” like than Martins. And carom cues are different-

Maybe mud balls on a 10’ table with slow cloth possibly they were good for that. Moving balls on very challenging equipment.

Clearly their reputation and value means they weren’t a novelty or POS cue if the era. There’s something going on here I don’t know about. I’m not very well informed on old cues, Palmers if that ear and older were more “pool” than Martins.

Hopefully someone who knows can share what they know. I’d like to learn more about them. As I mentioned I’ve always liked them-as a collectible not a player. And knowing the history would be cool. I’ve read some about them years ago, but I forgot what I read and where I read it.

Best
Fatboy 😀
