I was wondering if anyone out there has had the chance to play with the Poison Cyanide CY1 playing cue and if so could you giv me your thoughts and reviews about the cue as I am thinking of upgrading from the playing cue I have now.

Any help is appreciated.

What are you playing with now?

I test hit one a few times, wasn't that impressed but seem like it would get the job done.

They are different looking, thats for sure.

I have played just a few times with poison cues and I was pretty impressed. They use predator technology and they definately look cool. The shaft is kinda the anti-custom (doesn't look like good old maple) and feels a little artificial but it still has a really good crisp hit. I know here in Austin my pool-guy lets anyone take a few shots with whatever cue (he even lets us try out different jump cues :) ) I would head to your local billard place and ask to try a poison out because as everyone plays different, what I thought was good might be crap to you!!

Yakety Yak I am using a british made stinger cue with an Irish linen wrap, it was fine when I was just starting out but the grip just isn't helping now as I have sweaty palms (always had this but the linen wrap makes it worse as it just gets wet) so the poison seemed like a good choice because of the grip and the fact they use predator technology.

To the person who said "Don't you know that everyone here are pool cue snobs. We don't use anything but the finest CUSTOM pool cues!!!!!!", if the cue works for you then it shouldn't matter whether the cue costs $50 or $300 a cue is a cue.

BTW, Yakety Yak here are the cues I am using at the moment, how much do you reckon I would get for them if tried to sell them, they are in excellent condition:

I do believe he was kidding with you about the CUSTOM cues.

While this is not an answer about a cue, I would make another suggestion to you. Since you already have a playable cue, I would consider spending the money on lessons, which will improve your game way more than any cue will.

cheers for the advice mantis99 but the reason I am changing the cue and selling the two I have linked to is because:

1. The break cue linked to above I don't need anymore as I have a phenolic bunjee which is great.

2. The grip on the playing cue linked to above just isn't helping now as I have sweaty palms (always had this but the linen wrap makes it worse as it just gets wet) so the poison seemed like a good choice because of the grip.

It has nothing to do with improving my game as I am taking lessons and practising and more to do with necessity.

from the looks of it, you are somewhat using a snooker type of cue. I know those butt shape ends.

my suggestion is, if you like to try the poison cue, that would be fine until you finally got to a point where you wanted to have a $500 custom. no harm with that as you might grow and outgrow the poison after some time.

as for sweaty palm problems, I would suggest a cue with no grip at all. you also have the luxury to put powder in your sweaty palm without the risk of getting a dirty grip handle.

Tough question since I am not that familiar with that cue (stinger) but I would say just being a straight playing cue, expect to be only recover 35 to 60 percent for what you paid in excellent condition in my opinion. If it was brand new, usually 70 to 100 percent of what you paid.

Other options are no wrap and leather wrap. Don't know if you tried any of those although leather wraps tend to be on cues $300 USD on up.

But if your in dire need to get a great performing cue, also check McDermott, Viking, Pechaeur, and Joss if they are in your area. These cue companies usually have a base models in the $100 to $160 range and offers great bang for the buck. Many touring pros shoot with these brands of cues (whether by choice or sponsorship). McDermotts, Viking, and Pechauer have lifetime warranties I do believe. They are alot more traditional looking than the cue you are looking at though. But they also have more craftmanship and woodworking involved versus a graphics or painted cue. Looks are important as a cue is a very personal choice and you must be totally happy with the looks as well as how it plays. Also these cues will depreciate less IMO than a Poison cue. Predator does make decent products so I can say if you went with a poison cue, they are probably not going to be a crap.

Almost all cues over $80 will make balls pretty good.

Just my thoughts.

Good luck in your search!

it may be tough to find but try to get a good cue with a nylon wrap. i have a mcdermott plain jane that i bought in 1996 and they used some type of nylon on it that provides an awesome grip and my palm sweats to but that wrap never feels wet like the irish linen does to me. i emailed mcderrmott about a year ago and they said they still had some in stock and they would put it on a new cue if i ordered it that way.
