Is it just a gimmick? I don't think I'm all that profficient with a regular wooden triangle, and I don't want a sardo tight rack (don't like the idea of tiny little dent in our home table).

i have one....it does ok for 8ball but it seems to be a little loose on 9ball, i dont see of a way to adjust it. It could just be the balls im using, centennials with an aramith measles ball. I do know they are supposed to be using them at the open, so there may just be something im doing wrong

Messed with it at a demo at VF in 06. The person giving the demo couldnt even get to rack tightly.
The pros had the 8ball event that year and chameleon must have been a sponsor. They were using the rack upside down and improperly just so they can get a tight rack out of it.

Seems like I'll just get a standard wooden rack then...
Had to use it at the viking tournament. By the end of the tournament the remaining players including myself were just using a standard rack because the chameleon (or us idiots using it) couldnt get a good tight rack out of it.
The sardo is the best of the 2 but overall the good ol wooden rack is the best.
Actually I need to buy a good wooden rack. Any suggestions? We seen one they were using on tv between shane and orcullo and it had a website on the side of it but we forgot which it was

Great wood rack
I have one of the Diamond Billiard Products wood racks and it works very well. It is thick, heavy wood that does not bend and you can rack the balls very tightly with it.

I believe this is the one Jerry is talking about. I agree, it's the best rack I've ever used. It's thick, heavy, and has extra room to get your fingers in behind the balls.

The exact one from years past, I always heard it called the oversized OAK rack or Texas rack, but yes, they are the best all around rack, IMO. They are easy to use, you can manuever your fingers around the balls, shoring them up for either 8, 9, or 10 ball pretty easily, and it gives a nice tight rack.

I agree with the others. The Chameleon is JUNK!! I too, played in a Viking tourney not too long ago and they had us trying to use it! Everyone hated the rack for 9-ball. We figured out a way to get around it but to use it as it is designed, not worth the headache! YMMV
That Diamond Club rack is pretty expensive. I don't think they are on the website (poolndarts.com) yet, but Mueller has a pair of new heavy duty racks in their new catalog on page 78. There's one with 5/8" thick walls for $15 and one with 7/8" thick walls for $20.
I have used the Diamond rack plenty of times and it is great. It has either one or two (depending on the model) notches that help align the rack straight, but that's nothing you can't do yourself.

tried it for an afternoon of competition,
but I won't be using it in the future.
One major problem when using the rack for 14.1 straight pool
is the 6 protuberances which extend beyond the normal rack area
and will certainly interfere with the 15th ball
when it's in one of these 6 areas near the rack.
Whoever designed the rack didn't play much straight pool.
When using it for 9 ball, it was a kludge.
Overall, I just didn't like the look/feel of the thing.
The old-fashioned wood rack is still the best.
