Hathaway Fairmont 6 ft. Portable Pool Table

I wouldn't take that table if they paid ME $450.....
....the ball and rail action aren't even close to a slate pool table.

I was waiting for the inevitable "I wouldn't play on that table if you paid me" comment....right on schedule. Here is a little history lesson for you.

"The History of billiards is long and very rich. The game has been played by kings and commoners, presidents, mental patients, ladies, gentlemen, and hustlers alike. It evolved from a lawn game similar to the croquet played some-time during the 15th century in Northern Europe and probably in France. Play moved indoors to a wooden table with green cloth to simulate grass, and a simple border was placed around the edges. The balls were shoved, rather than struck, with wooden sticks called "maces." The term "billiard" is derived from French, either from the word "billart", one of the wooden sticks, or "bille", a ball."
Soooo....this is what you get from my post?
....the table is a terrible buy.

Sure they played on wooden tables...hell, the early cues didn't even have leather tips....
...what's that got to do with playing conditions in 2017?

I don't know of any folding slate tables so let me know if you find one. :)

The playing conditions on your folding table aren't even close to a slate table......
....so what you learn on that thing will be invalid when you go to pool rooms and bars.

That's absolute crapolla. Tennis players play on clay, grass, and hard court...all are different...did everything they learned playing on hard courts for the first 15 years become invalid when they went to clay or grass?

Does EVERY slate table play the same? Cue stick deflection? Tips? Balls? Rails? Cloth? There are many variables to pool. It takes one shot on any pool table with a bar stick to become aware of the roll and deflection and adjust accordingly. A perfect example of this is playing on the tv table and adjusting to the speed. Another example is home table advantage having to give weight...efren took weight when playing in some barn with a rooster crowing...great video btw...so many players around here could not play with those distractions.

(I know...pool players play on grass all the time)

I think I've been fairly gentle with you....you got a lot to learn.
There is a lot of billiard knowledge on this site....time to search for it.

...and you might not like the responses if you ask our resident table expert....
...Real King Cobra.......:duck:

Gentle with me? Come to Vancouver dude and throw down some cash...we will show you how to play pool. US open winners have come and gone with their tails between their legs.

Seriously? If you so much as breathe on that p.o.s. the balls are gonna move. Colossal waste of $$$.

Read the amazon reviews...supposed to be very solid...some claiming to play in the APA. This is a folding table afterall...just for cluster play. I have slate 9 ball table already...so all is good. Trying to practice on an 8 ball table and moving to a 9 is a disadvantage if you never play on a 9...just like going from a 9 to a 10...takes a bit of adjusting but no big deal. In this case I play 8 ball mostly on a 3 1/2 x 7 so easy transition.

I have owned a foldaway table before, very similar construction to the one you're looking at and although fine if you have no other choice it is very different to playing on a solid table. In my experience, it wasn't so much the lack of slate bed, but the cushions that made the biggest difference, they just don't react properly due to the light construction.

Of course it may suit the purpose you want it for although personally given you already have a 9 footer I wouldn't bother. That said its all personal choice, there's no harm in you trying it out, maybe it will do exactly what you want it to, it will be interesting to get feedback as to how you get on, I'm curious to see how such a light (even if its well made) table copes with standard US pool balls.

I remember the days of people trying to defend buying a Yugo(A car if you're too young to remember). Pretty much the same deal. Hey man, if you like it, great.

Hmmm...two pseudonyms on a screen....and a guy who thinks a folding pool table is a good
idea....and we're a long way apart....lemme think about this....:scratchhead::rotflmao1:

There it is... the "Internet Woof". Was only a matter of time.

Out of curiosity, which US Open winners have you sent home with their tails between their legs?

Why did poolplayer get banned?

He had a lot to say.....but nothing bannable.
But Mr Wilson tends to stay on top of things....
....lot of familiarity for a member who joined this month....
...probably a reincarnation.

...could've been AZHousePro also....these guys are sharp.
