Does anybody have any secrets to getting rock hard and bondo out of the slate screw holes?

I use a spade bit with the point ground off. Drill down to the screw, hopefully the head was covered with paper! Not!! Take a small pointed awl and clean out the head.

A propane torch. piece of cake... Heat the bondo by sweeping back and forth, it will smell a bit and start to "toast" using a blade scraper the bondo will slide right off. In your screw holes use small circular motions and a pick or awl and the bondo will come right out.

Be careful not to set the bondo on fire!!! If it does ignite just cover it momentarily with a wide putty knife. A fan in an open window will keep the smell out of the room. Clean up any small residue with lacquer thinner.

I don't even mess with it. I just take a 1/4" drill bit and drill the head of the screw off, then lift the slate off the screws, set it aside, then remove the shank of the screw and replace them:D

Digging out plaster or wax is one thing, trying to dig out bondo is something else. It takes less time to drill the head of the screw off and lift the slate off the screw than it takes to try and dig bondo out of the heads of the screws. I carry lots of slate screws, so I don't mind replacing them when I need to;)

Glen,
What size screw do you use and where do you buy them?

I am like Glen, I carry a tote with all kinds of slate screws.
Each Pool table is different.

Some Screws you can get at your local Home Depot or Lowes.
The hard to find screws, Like your #16 x 2 thru #16 x 3 1/2, I will sometimes buy from OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware), if I only need a couple.

Lately I have just been buying Bulk from Fastnal.

Fastenel is also great for your hard to find rail bolts and Pocket bolts.
Though you have to be prepared to buy them in Bulk.
