Well, it might be the same with me, at least according to my best buddy who watched the game -- he says that I suck big time, and hence is convinced that I can't lay down any match.

(Besides -- all you uptighters wouldn't know whether I voted "I like to watch American Idol" or not ;^)

Just to give another different perspective on this........hundreds of city/area 8 ball pub/club team leagues in UK have been succesfully operated for 30 years or more with no player grading/handicapping systems whatsoever. Everyone plays off scratch.

Most UK leagues have anything from 2 to 4 divisions each containing perhaps 8 to 12 teams. There are end of season promotion and relegation of teams according to their finishing league positions. Naturally the stronger teams and better standards of players tend to be found in the higher divisions. New teams generally have to start in the lowest division and work their way up.

Now there is an idea that makes sense and it would be nice if we did that around here.

Unfortuately given the nature of those who play pool far too many people (about 20% as indicated by the poll) seem to think that pool = hustling. I think it is the nature of our society where some people seems to take every advantage they can and find that enjoyable.

As you sow, so shall you reap -- lot of truth in that. Because we have so many people who engage in unsportsman like conduct we have fewer players. And these "players" have to feed off of each other. The shark image is a good one.
