Have you seen this type of ferrule?

Good morning! I was changing a tip last night and after cutting the last one off, I saw the ferrule below. I haven't seen this type before and not quite sure how to change the tip out on this.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, John

No, but I would ask the customer if he wanted to change the ferrule before i did anything,

I'd be leary of 'changing' anything that you're not familiar with.
That's how warranties get voided.

Just glue a carbon tip pad on and then the tip or just put on the Kamui Clear, or glue on your own clear Tip pad made from a music CD or some other CD/DVD blank. I think some places are now selling the plastic tip pads as well. My 1st choice would be a Carbon tip pad.

Is that leftover tip or pad on the facing, or is that part of the ferrule? I would find out the make of cue and find out if this is by design before going further. Even putting a pad, if there wasn't one before, can change how it hits, or feels.

That is part of the ferrule and looks like some sort of polymer. I am talking to the owner today about the different options and will find out the make.

Obviously appears to be very thin walled.

Quite a few moons ago, there was a member here that was designing, or showed a picture of his phenolic break tips with a little tail on them.

I have no idea if this was done by a cue company or this was something of his design.

But obviously a little pocket in the middle, and a deeper hole that has been drilled or bored beyond that.

There was a Cue Maker from Calgary, and now, cannot remember his name. A few guys in town do have his cues. His ferrule system that he uses is quite unique just the same.

I replaced a tip on one shaft and drew a small design of how he may have designed the ferrule. As there could be 2 different possibilities on how it was made. And by just taking the tip off, it still didn't show allow you to see how it was put together.

Ahhh, remember now. Bernie Mickelson, I think.
