Heading to South Carolina for Thanksgiving week, guess what the question is?

Who will feed me some Turkey dinner?

And also, what would be a good place to play around Myrtle Beach with a 17 yr old? I see Shore Thing Billiards is that an OK place? I think smoking is allowed there, that is probably not a big thing as long as they are OK with under 18 people going there.

Any other places within an hour drive of Myrtle Beach that are worth driving to that are not 18+ or are at least flexible with the rules for good players?

Any weekly tournaments in the area?

I will be there from Sunday to Friday visiting my daughter and grandkids and of-course we need to visit some local rooms cause that's what we do.

If anyone in the area wants to meet up and say Hi PM me your contact info.

I just noticed Grady's is there, but it's over 2 hours from where I will be, dang it. Looks like a nice palace and Grady Mathews is one of my all time favorites. One of the best and friendliest people I met.

if all else fails, run up to breaktime in Wilmington. 8' smart and 9' diamonds.
there is a place around myrtle beach called Jay's that I think has some tables.

Wilmington is about 90 minutes one way, bit further that I want to spend in a car, especially after driving there and looking towards the drive back LOL

Hmmm, are you wondering if they have turkeys in SC ???

Look in the phone book when you get there. We haven't been in several years now, despite living in South Carolina. Shore Thing may appeal or may not. I wasn't all that impressed and did not play there, if I remember right.

More like any other posts that starts "so and so is heading to this or that place"... on the forums, we are all looking for places to play :D

I think my only option there is Shore Thing which should be very close and is the only place an hour or less from where we will be.

Myrtle Beach

I lived in Myrtle for a long time, but moved recently. We were always complaining about not having a decent hall. Ron Jons has four crappy bar boxes. There are tons of small bar weekly tournaments. Some days you have a choice of two or three with fields of 12-16 players, but I can't think of a place kid friendly.
There is a huge APA league participation there with Ewa Lawrence owning the franchise but she has to go to Wilmington to play.

Shore Thing looks pretty good with 7' diamonds and looks like one 9 footer. I contacted them on Facebook to see if they are OK with a 17 yr old. Seems they have a tournament on Fridays, but we will miss it, we are driving home that day I think.

My trip report.

First, do not play for money on a 4.25" Diamond when tired. I lost $25.

Second, Sore Thing is a nice room, all Diamond 7' with a tight 9' Diamond that just needs a bit of cleaning to play great. As a bonus, the seafood place next door to it was great.

On way home we stopped by in Harrisonburg VA and found a place called Gold Crown Billiards maybe 10 minutes from the hotel. I feel bad that we only had an hour to play before they closed because that place is a hidden gem.

The table we got was a perfectly setup Gold Crown with 4.5" pockets with new rubber and fairly new cloth. I am going to guess the other tables were also well taken care of. You would not know that from diving up to the place as it looks like a big trailer form the outside, not the best looking of buildings.
