Headphones at hard times sac

I was pleasantly surprised when an extremely beautiful lady in the supermarket asked me out. I said sure hell yea, I'm fee tonight, lets go out!
, I then realized it was her headset she was talking to . ;-)
It used to be a sign of insanity to be walking down a street talking to yourself.

Come to think of it, it still might be...

Ah technology evolved. My hearing aids are Bluetooth linked to my phone. I can leave the phone in my pocket and answer a call by touching a button on the hearing aid.
I could listen to music or youtube or coaching with none the wiser. I don't, I already have enough voices in my head . 🤷‍♂️

it takes the social aspect out of the game.

but many have no social skills anyway though.

Just another sign of the times. I agree with much of snookered-again said, and how society in general has migrated away from actual personal interactions.
Quick side story, had a good bud that was my best man, and I was his. After we were both married, we kind of drifted apart and didn't do much together. Part of me wondered if we had changed as people and went in different directions or just weren't making the effort to do things together again. We both talked about that and how we needed to do stuff together again. So we decided to go fishing one evening. A little local electric-only lake was the call, and we got out there at about 4:00pm, planning to fish until about midnight or so. As soon as we hit the water, he put on a set of headphones and had the music loud enough that I could hear it at the other end of the boat. I tried making conversation a couple times, but he'd still keep those headphones on. It was about then that I realized people drift apart for good reasons sometimes.

If they're playing shit music my "headphones" are going on.

I pay attention to the game at all times and to be honest I couldn't give a shit less if you don't like my headphones being on, that's your problem. 🤷‍♂️

I used to think it was being disrespectful until I tried it. Listening to music I enjoy and being able to ignore the stupid conversations going on around me really allows me to focus at a higher level.

I don't wear them too often, but when I do I certainly play better. I use the Bose noise cancelling ear buds and if I'm playing alone, the noise cancelling stays ON, but if I'm playing an opponent the noise cancelling goes OFF so I can hear everything they might say.

Flip side: I usually practice with ear buds in because I want left alone and I figured that would be a good signal that I'm tuned out. Keep in mind this is me getting a table by myself at the hourly rate and not playing anyone other than the ghost. This isn't me playing someone as practice and me being tuned out. The amount of times I have stood up from a shot to see someone has been talking to me the entire time has been staggering.

I just think that using them when playing someone is a major 'f%&k-you' and disrespectful. Practice with them is fine. I've never been in a place where it was so loud i had to go to fones to tune it out. I just got used to bars/clubs early on and it never fazed me. A lot of times i was the one playing said offensive tunes. ;)

It's not even the offensive tunes (on particular days, I'd bet my tunes are much more vulgar). Sometimes it's the opposite effect, like when the pool room hired a 20 something female to run the front desk and we became subjected to current pop music on the stereo system. One friend even commented that his game was off because he hadn't heard one Eagles or Eric Clapton song all night. Nah man, I'm not paying $7 an hour to hear Taylor Swift and sad sounding ballads. In go the air pods and I'll either listen to music, sports talk or a ball game.

agree 10000%. Phones too, turn those fk'rs off. I will not play 'fone pool', if someone is jacking with their fone i walk.
I‘ve played in tournaments where if your phone rings the game is forfeited.
…..and I tell people with head phones that I refuse to be responsible if you sleep ‘push’.

yea but who wants to play you when you have headphones on and don't interact. unless you are a fish and lose money all the time, then everyone wants to play you.

it may work for a tournament or league where your opponents have no choice who they play.

Greg made a good point, so if you call someone out for wearing ear buds, and they let you know that they are being used as a hearing aid, that's a hard thing to contest.

if they are emitting faint undesirable music from their headset and it bugs you its probably not inappropriate to discuss it directly. , if you feel it meets the threshold of being worth discussing then it is.

I often dont like others music choices, one guy loves rap music. I think Ive been very tolerant, I'd much prefer Taylor Swift.. ;-) Maybe its weird because I'm too old to be allowed to like it, but but I like her voice.

Some fights just aren't worth sacrificing the dog for ;-) OK lets all rap together then..

there is a positive side, if others bring their favorite songs and playlists sometimes I find I'm being exposed to good music that I wouldn't other wise find. I'm so sick of the mainstream , "hotel california" a million times is enough.

Ive been searching for things like radio stations that do not play hit songs, Google directs me straight to the most listened. I used to be able to listen to music on youtube but it turned into just being constantly interrupted by ads. local stations from here and Washington play hotel California about every 3rd song. CBC turned racist, it always promiting speacial native rights. I don't agree with the notion of special human rights because of where people were born or who their daddy is. They used to play a huge variety.. I like variety.

listened to Neil Young "Landing on water" last night, I quite enjoyed it.

whats your favorite album right now?

I sometimes wear them when practicing. Now that I live in the south, the music isn't in my wheelhouse.
I do not use them in a match unless there are loud conversations around the table AND my opponent is also wearing them.
If the room is distracting, I fight through it if my opponent does as well.
CSI banned them completely at the state tournements.
You could be in the back corner of the room practicing by yourself two hours before play begins, and a ref will take the time to walk over and tell you to remove them.

Yeah if folks were respectful you wouldn't need them. I'd imagine back in the day if you tried some antics that are common today you would get told off real quick.

I play better with them, but I don't use them because I'm trying to focus regardless of what's going on in the room. They make it almost too easy to focus. Pool... a game for masochists. 😅

should NEVER wear them in a match. shouldn't need a rule to tell people that.
Nothing wrong with wearing them while shooting. Other than saying hello at the start of a game, I'm not really talking to anyone I don't know very much. People should do what they want.
