Heart rate data during play....

Thank you, excellent info on HRV. I’ve tweaked my watch to show it during play and I’m going to explore some of these exercises to see if I fare better (from a fatigue standpoint) in long matches.
You are quite welcome. the technique is actually easy to acquire but you have to put the time in on the front end to maximize the effect.
Regardless it's a healthy thing to do, and also good for focus, insomnia, white-coat hypertension, anger management, and stress management in general. You can do some HRV biofeedback for a few sessions with a BCIA-certified therapist to get it really dialed in and then work with your watch or a free pacer app like Breathing Zone on your phone at home. If you decide to use the breathing zone app message me and I'll help you get the settings just right.

I notice the same thing with my heart rate when I’m playing in tournaments or even just competing in league matches. My numbers are so much higher than at rest, especially if I make a good run or get close to breaking a high score. It’s wild, because I never really feel anxious, and my body doesn’t always show obvious stress, but later when I check my numbers on my tracker, it’s like I ran a marathon. A few friends say it’s the adrenaline and just the excitement of competing that does it.

Must be slow day in Pool World, as this topic is 3 years old. I don't wear watch, and if heart beats I am alive sort of.

Apple Watch are like, something I question need on?

I've spent the last few years training for this exact situation..

I have several straight line workouts actually 5 (one for each weekday morning) and I do them in 3 sets before each set I do calisthenics firstly to help train muscle memory (the military makes you do push-ups during training for a reason) and also to learn to calm a fast heartrate down before attempting to deliver a perfect difficult shot biathalon style..

Results are promising..

I noticed my HR at 120 just sitting during a match. I solved the problem, stopped wearing the Apple watch. Timex for me :-)

That was my solution as well. I don’t play any better than I did when I created this thread but it’s one less thing for me to worry about.

Alcohol has a terrible impact on HRV (sometimes for many hours for a single drink) so I avoid it if I’m trying to be competitive.
