i am getting ready to try the cue cote for the first time. i know about using the torch to get bubble out of epoxy, but i was wondering about using a heat gun to do the same thing. anyone tried it?

just wondering...

carbon dioxide

i believe its not the heat, but the co2 that makes the bubbles pop. i mix my 2 part finish in a small cup, then i blow my breath into the cup and tip and slowly rotate the cup, i do this until i see the mixture start to turn clear. i let the finish set 4-5 min before i put it on the cue. as i slowly rotate the cue while the finish sets-up. if i see any air bubbles on the finish i just breath on them and they will pop.

Heat gun blows hot air (so do I). But with hot air comes dust??? Just a thought.

That is correct. I have tried both and use a torch when nessesary. The torch will incinerate any dust, and doesn't 'push' the layer of finish like a heat gun can.

Make sure it is a propane torch and not one of the butane torches. The butane will load black suit into the finish.

Heat the epoxy in a microwave for 10 seconds before u mix it.

Weigh it and mix it.

Put the cup in a vacuum chamber for 5 minutes.

Heat the cue. I use a 1000 w box heater. It has a light fan and won't cause dust or blow the epoxy around.

Apply the epoxy with rubber glove. Rub in a light coat and then add the rest.

Smooth with a foam brush.

Reheat again in 10 minutes.

I never use a torch.

No bubbles ever.

You must seal the cue first. I use G5 but you can use a thin coat of the finish epoxy. If you don't seal the wood first, bubbles can come out of the wood into the finish.

The room should be at about 75 deg. I takes 4 -6 hours to set up and 24 to sand.

Although, I don't use this system, yours sounds the most logical to me. Well said.

I can't speak for all of them, but I have a butane torch that does not leave any black. On the other hand a butane lighter certainly does. I found that out the hard way one time.
