Who uses Gus Szamboti shafts yet these days. I bought 2 shafts recientlyand what a thrill - just looking at the tapers and the Elephant Ivory gus used. They are both totally different- tapers except the ferrules are identical size ,ivory and lenght. Just wondering what makers shafts or cues are being used by you guys here- mark
 
I'm using a Ron Kilby. While it got shipping damage due to poor packaging without any response from him, I'm pretty happy with how it plays (which is the most important part). It's 60 inches long, much longer than a standard billiard cue. It helps as I'm a tall fellow. I generally prefer not to have any ivory in my cues because of the senseless slaughter of those animals, although this one does have ivory near the bottom of the butt. I like the glazed over wrap also.

Shipping damage? I have no record of any communication about such! What is the damage and I'll see what I can do to fix it? When was it shipped and perhaps we have a USPS claim. I package all my cues the same way and only one other time has there been a claim for damage.
 
I couldn't agree more about the senseless slaughtering of animals especially for ornamental purposes.

<Preaching mode on> Perhaps some day my grandkid's grandkid's grandkids may be more thoughtful regarding our non-human animal brothers and sisters....but I doubt it....our reptilian brain is one neuron away from mass murder...but I digress< Preaching mode off>

Hi Ron,

I sent emails to you about it (last one sent 8/27/10), but never got a response. The butt and 2 shafts were loose together in the same plastic bag, and they rubbed together in triangle shipping box. I bought it last August, so too late to do any claims i would think. The damage was slight, just a few knicks caused by the pieces bumping against each other. Only a couple small marks or pits in the finish of the butt. Nothing major.

I will say that the cue plays great, and other than the slight damage (which I'd probably cause anyway with constant play), I have no complaints and I'm still happy with it. I really love the laquered wrap on that thing! I'd just recommend separating the shafts and butts in different plastic bags during shipment however.

...and I forgot about the USBA discount when I bought it too, but that's my own damn fault :)
