I too have this model Helmstetter. It is a great shooting cue. With the orginal price tag of $650 I just dont see how the price would only bring $500. If anyone has a Blue book handy please look it up and let me know what it says. I had an "old timer" recently tell me when he saw the cue that I needed to leave the cue put away because its a collectors cue. Has me thinking that I might want to sell it at some point.

Just for everyones information, Helmstetter cues have had the Helmstetter logo on the forearm, since the Mid-1970's.

I think you are right. Someone on here has even posted pics of their old Helmstetter with a signature and an early 80's date, for example.

Several cuemakers did long before the 90's. Tascarella most notably specifically to distinguish his work from Balabushka's because people in the area were crediting some of his cues to George.

That and the fact that most of the cues had ebony butt sleeves and it was more visible on the maple between the points.

What would a good price be on this cue in todays market?
