. I tried searching the net via search engines but info on Helmstetter cues is pretty scarce. I'll share the info.
that's bad information.
Cues were signed well before that.
Not bein a ball buster, just trying to give you good info.
I've never seen a cue signed on the forearm before this that I can remember. I've seen logos but not signed. Who signed cues on the forearm before this??
Sorry, I don't remember seeing any of these signed on the forearm prior to the early '90s. As to the OP, the second edition of the Blue Book says that the "H" series of Adam cues had Helmstetter on the forearm, 1996 on.
You may very well be right, I see that Richard Black signed from 1980 on but I don't remember seeing one. I do remember one that Mike X. had one that was unsigned and Mike said it was made by Mike Wheeler working for Black.
I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT HELMSTETTER SIGNING CUES. I WAS SPEAKING IN GENERAL, IN RESPONSE TO THE GENERAL COMMENT THAT WAS MADE.

I'VE ALSO OWNED AT LEAST A DOZEN R. BLACKS MADE BEFORE 85 THAT WERE SIGNED ON THE FOREARM. THE ONLY ONES THAT WERE'T WERE THE "PINNACLES" THAT I OWNED.
I'VE ALSO HAD SEVERAL MOTTEY CUES THAT WERE SIGNED THAT WERE PRE 90'S CUES. THOSE PICS ARE ON A DIFFERENT CPU. NOT SURE WHEN HE STARTED SIGNING EXACTLY THOUGH, BUT IT WAS CERTAINLY PRE-1990.

Several cuemakers did long before the 90's. Tascarella most notably specifically to distinguish his work from Balabushka's because people in the area were crediting some of his cues to George.

I have that cue and yes, it is from the late 80s early 90s. It hits great. i have it with both original shafts. the one thing for certain is that it was Diamond Cues then they were bought out by helmstetter and helmstter change some of the beaty rings but designs stayed close. the one I have was right when Helmstetter took over Diamond and I had the old Diamond beaty rings on the Helmstetter and it still had the Diamond D at the bottom which we runned off because everyone though it was a josh west back then.
Great hitting and great looking stick! i had someone offer me 2k for mine, they said because of the Diamond slash Helmstetter deal that it was a collectors item but I dont know for certain. I kept the stick.............it still plays great!

Thanks, Fred, I'm aware of my mistake now. As I said, I just don't remember seeing it a lot in that time period. Maybe there weren't any that showed up where I played.

My bud was under the impression the cue was worth $1K+. Being the cue retailed in the $600 range, I figured that info was as accurate as the timeframe he thought it was built....
But with someone offering $2K for one, it makes one wonder.
With that being said, what would you put the value of his cue at? I'm sure he's gonna want to know. I would like to give him some accurate info on it. Y'all are right, it is a sweet cue. I doubt he'll sell it being it has family ties...but one never knows.

To be honest, those numbers aren't realistic. Probably around $500 - somewhere in that area give or take a bit, I would say. It's a production line cue so they made quite a few and many Helmstetter's are out there - the values aren't that high. Best way to value it is keep an eye on ebay and other sites to see what they actually sell for.
For the money, they are a good cue. I like the looks of this one but $500 for a production Helmstetter would be on the high end.

Just for everyones information, Helmstetter cues have had the Helmstetter logo on the forearm, since the Mid-1970's. To the poster who said that Helmstetter bought the design from Diamond and that they have one of the transition please post some photo's I would really like to see it because I am unaware of that information.
