Helmstetter Replacement Shaft

New to the forum. Had a question about a Helmstetter replacement shaft. I am having trouble finding any info about Helmstetter shafts. I have a very sentimental Helmtetter cue that was given to me by my father. I know he bought it about 10-15 years ago (maybe longer). It's birds-eye maple and has a wood-to-wood joint. It has warped a little bit and I wanted to get another shaft for it. I'm pretty sure it's a 3 cushion cue.

Out of curiosity, any idea what the value of this cue is, and any info on getting a replacement shaft would be greatly appreciated. Thanks... (I attached pics)

If I were going to replace the shaft I would contact Chuck Starky. He may or maynot be able to help but he uses the wood pin in his cues. Not in the shaft but I'll bet with the old shaft he could make one

The cue pictured is certainly a 3-Cushion Cue made by Helmstetter Japan in the 1970's. The CCS under the Helmstetter logo stands for Carl Conilin Special. Karl was a friend of Richard Helmstetter and Adam made the cues for him, many think these cues were better quality than the standard Helmstetter 3-Cushion Cue. These cues were made to Karl's standards so they have a different taper used on the butt and the shaft and the cues originally came with two shafts.

These cues are more valuable than the standard Helmstetter cues from the same time because there were not as many made. The cue pictured is the lowest of the CCS line and it is missing a shaft which will reduce the cues value by around $100. I would think the cue should be worth around $300 to $500 depending on how bad some one wants it.

I would leave the original shaft alone, and by another shaft with a Black collar. However, remember that not all wood Screw shafts have the same thread pitch so when you screw it together it should not be real tight. Below is a link to a company that sells 3-Cushion cues made by Adam Japan, they should fit correctly, but they may be a little larger or smaller than the cues butt.

Thanks for the info triley and manwon, I really love the feel of this stick, it's just the slight warp in the shaft that plays hell with my confidence. I may just buy the matching stick from the link you sent me and tuck the one I currently have away.

I appreciate the info, it's nice to finally get some answers about the cue.

Thanks again...
