Help Buying a Cue

I've been playing pool awhile but not serious, lately I've gotten serious and have gotten fairly good with 1 piece cues and crappy 2 piecers. Im looking to upgrade for around $200. I have no clue what to look for weight and tip wise. I'd like a 3-piece if thats possible for $200 so I can add an extension to the end if I need to. Any recommendations.

i think South East cues made a bunch of cues that have an extendable butt sleeve.you could find a used sneaky pete for about that price i would think.

My brother has this cue which im thinking of buying from him for very cheap since he doesn't play anymore. http://www.ozonebilliards.com/plcueg26.html

Would it be worth it to buy a new $200 cue or would just buying say an ivory ferrule and say a kamui tip and having a cue maker put them on my brothers cue be a better option?

I like McDermotts for that price range, but it's hard to get a G-core cue for 200 bucks. If you want to get a cue with a LD shaft from McDermott you might be looking at the Warden for about 270 bucks. If you really want a screw on extension and need to stay under 200 bucks you might want to look at the Cuetec R360 series. They have a LD shaft and the capability to screw in an extension instead of using one of the slip on styles.

Definately try the Cuetec before you buy it though, the hit with the McDermott is much nicer in my opinion.

So would it be worth it to upgrade that stick of my brothers with an ivory ferrule and a new tip or is it better to just get a mcdermott?

It says your brother's stick is from the "Graphite Series" ... that makes me want to stay away from it. If you have a couple of extra bucks you can spend over the 200 limit you mentioned, get the McDermott. It's a real cue, from a nice company that gives a lifetime warranty, has a great hit for a production cue, and for 250ish you can get one of their sticks with the G-core low deflection shaft. I like the Warden model, but any of their lower end models that comes with the G-core shaft is a great deal. If you use english and haven't tried a LD shaft, you will more than likely really like the new stick once you get used to it.

Of course, you could always just put a post in the Wanted section and see what you can get used, the cue market right now is super low and you can get a heck of a deal on a used cue.
