Been looking at jump break and just break cues. After reading the thread on tournement rules and regs on phenolic tips I am wondering if I should just buy a break cue with a reg tip and get a seperate jump cue?Any one could use some sound advise!

I've found that a jump/break may do a good job of breaking, but will - at best - only be so-so for jumping. My advice would be a stand alone jump cue - Lomax is the nuts.
btw - the Samsara jb tip is leather, is nearly as hard as phenolic, and gives you great power & control.

ditto to what they said... :)
my back up player is a J/B. Stiff shaft, lepro hard tip. I like stiff hitting cues so it works perfect for me. In my opinion, a j/b is the way to go for most people. BUT... as they said... it might not perform as well jumping as an actual jump cue... if you like a break cue like the BK2 or just want to use an old player cue for breaking, just pick up a jump cue. Idk enough about tournament rules for different leagues and tournament runners to know what to suggest about phenolic. I know everyone is going away from the phenolic tip. IMHO... I would find what suits you best as far as breaking accuracy and power. If a j/b works then go for it. Also, realize that with a j/b you don't need an extra pocket on a case to put the jump handle in. If you go with a playing cue, break cue and jump cue.... you will need a case with a jump handle pocket.... just a few thoughts I have. There are alot more qualified people to shed some light on this though.... Honestly try listing this in the main forum. You will get some more feedback there... if you're looking for a cheap j/b I have one for sale... post it in the main forum and see what people suggest since there are better players that can make more useful comments than myself.
best of luck.

I agree 100% wiht the other posts. Get break cue alone. Those j/b combos never seem to work well... As far what I could see.

I am still getting used to my j/b. I like it alot because I can use it as a shooter too. The shaft isn't as stiff as what I would like for jumping though. It has taken me a while to get used to jumping with it, whereas you give me a regular jump cue and I will fly it 3/4 table pretty easily. best thing to do is just try some out if you can. If I knew something was on the line and I had the opportunity to use a a regular jump cue over my j/b... yeah I would go with a jump cue and break cue separately. You get a better break cue and a better jump cue if they are separate cues than you do in trying to put both properties into one cue. Jump cues are pretty cheap too. Just my humble opinion. Best of luck man.
