Just talked to Bob Runde who made the cue & its sapele. Very beautiful up close.

how suitable is sapele for cues especially the figured stuff, need coring ?, paul..

Bob bought a bunch of wood from a violin maker. Sapele is widely used for guitars & other string instruments.

it is a relative of Mahogany and is pretty light and has strength under Maple.it is probably OK to use uncored, but bordeline on strength and weight.

First Runde I've seen with a 3/8 10 pin & the cue plays great. Bob make a great 5/16 14 steel jointed cue but I never could play with them. Lately Runde has gotten away from the over done gaudy imho cues & has gotten into exotic wood combinations & elegant understated cues, which is where my tastes run.
