Help identify cue - possibly Rambo

A friend of mine acquired a very old cue. He thinks it was the cue of an old time player in Buffalo, New York named Joe Moran. If it is indeed Joe's old cue, then it is a Rambo (probably one of his very early cues)

He is probably looking to sell it as well so stay tuned.

Attached are some pics

Thanks!

Can you get the width at the joint?

i'd say yes, right up until i saw the end of the butt.
it has the wrong screw.
i think it's a brunswick.

nice cue.

I think Bogey has it right. Butt screw is wrong. Plus the parts don't fit together very well even taking age into consideration. I say regular Brunswick.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Anybody have an idea what a cue like this with 3 shafts would sell for?

I would say the cue with one original shaft is only worth $350 - $400 since the decal is missing. The additional shafts, assuming they are not orifginal to the cue byt ar old Brunswicks reasonably straight could be worth $75 to $125 each.

Joe Moran's Cue

Hello Netwrkz2000,

How is it that you or your friend heard of Joe Moran? And you are correct that he was a great (straight) pool player from Buffalo, New York. Joe played pool in the late 60's and 70's at Chet's pool hall on Harlem Rd. in Cheektowaga, New York. Many times he and I would play on adjacent table's and he would give me a few pointers.
I do not think the cue that you posted was his. Joe was a very classy gentleman. Most of the time he wore a suit and tie while playing pool. I do not recall his cue but do not think it had a Hoppe style butt. Knowing him, I believe he would have played with a 'perfect' Bushka or Rambow.

Regards,
Hal

PS- Willie Mosconie once visited Buffalo for an exhibition/show. At the end of the exhibition Willie asked if anyone wanted to play a game of straight pool. Someone edged Joe on. Willie broke and played safe on Joe. Joe got up to the table and ran 100-out. Willie then said "I am sorry I have to leave now to catch my plane!''
I wish I would have played Joe but back then I was not close to his playing ability.

The cue may not have ever had a decal - I have an old Titlist like this that I suspect was made from a Titlist blank, not converted from a Brunswick. Also, I asked about the joint dimensions because although mine doesn't have the Hoppe ring, it appears to be the same wood (walnut I believe) and I haven't seen that on a Hoppe Professional 2-piece before.
