Help identify McDermott cues?

That's not entirely true, on the CoTM line there were several across the series that did not have the cloverleaf engraved on the butt cap. But they were still US made, in the factory, and not cheap Asian imports.

I don't know the logic behind doing this, someone once told that me that some of the CoTM variations were so subtle between the limited run cue and one that was in production that not engraving the cloverleaf was an additional way to know it was the CoTM.

I have four CoTM's that are unmarked and are very much real McDermotts.
