Tonight I was playing a BCA rules 8 ball tournament..I'm in the middle of a match and the tournament director and the owner call me over...One of the directors helping with the tournament some how moved me over a bracket as the winner and the bracket below me moved that person over as winner also...Now neither one of us played the match but somehow we both got moved over as winners..

So I win my next 2 matches and am in the middle of my 3rd match since they screwed up the board and they don't know what to do ....

In other words there are 2 players who never got to play their match but were left in as a loser of their match....So they are out of tournament....And myself and one other player moved on and are still playing our 3rd match since that happened....

Do you go back and start over from that spot where the mistake was made and have the right people play each other ??And then everyone who has played the next 3 matches has to play all over again also?? Or do you give those 2 players their money back and say your sorry ????

Is there a set rule for this????

Wound up the 2 players left out said to just give them back their money and that's what happened.....But what do you do in this situation ????

Any ideas ????? Ever happen to you ????

Not sure what exactly went on without being there, but almost sounds like there was an odd number of players and a few of you got what's called a "bye". This should be counted as an automatic advancement. Mainly used just to wait until another match finishes and a couple of players are elimitated in order to even everything up.

Sounds like there needs to be a bit of clarification on the rules and process of advancement before the next tournament begins. If the two players were ruled as eliminated over the confusion, I agree the right thing to do is give their money back.

I'd bring it up with the person running the tourny and see about getting something written up before the next one and have it posted on the wall next to the board.

There was no bye.....Two players are suppose to play each other....The director somehow doesn't call out the match, I guess thinks it was played and moves one player over as the winner....He does the same thing to the bracket below this one.
So now the 2 winners(but never played) previous match, go on and play each other and move on to 3 more matches....
Then players who never played and were given a loss, check board and see they never played the match and were left behind as losers...
Hard to explain but hope your getting it..?? :)

Well, with that in mind, you have to consider that if no one mentioned it until a while later, it's hard to place blame on the person running it. Granted, they're in charge of managing the tourny, it's usually the responsability for one or both players in a match to report the outcome. You can only watch so many matches at a time(don't know how many table you guys shoot on at once), and things can get confounded sometimes.

Major mistake. There aren't any generally accepted "rules" per se as far as how to handle something like this. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but it sounds so screwed up, a negotiated fix is all that is there.

If the director messed up...then I would suggest both "outed" players would play each other then move forward in the bracket...the winner plays a player that would have had a second round bye and the loser moves to the losers bracket.

Like was mentioned before...no real "rule" for TD screw ups. lol.
