Action Fiend
I understand that the economy makes it very tough for us players to get out and play in tournies (especially when you have to travel). However, I just don't understand why The Southeast Open tour run by Tommy Kennedy doesn't get the respect and turnouts it deserves. There are a decent amount of tours nationwide (without having to mention any names) that get consistent turnouts whether ot not champions show up.
However, the SE Open tour (for the second week in a row in December) received 20 or less players in the open event, and I want to know why. No offense to any tournament director in the business, but Tommy Kennedy is certainly one of the best tournament director I know. He runs very clean and classy events, and he truly is one of the nicest guys on the planet. He's always chatting it up and socializing with me, and he never hesitates to give me tips and pointers everytime I see him. I don't understand why the players do not respond to such a genuine person. There was an open event here in Atlanta recently, and only 20 players showed up for the $1,000 added event. This was an extremely tough field of 20 players including Danny Smith, Paul Song, Bruce Berrong, Jesse Middlebrooks, Larry Price, Tommy Kennedy, Cliff Joyner, Clint McCullough, Jason Stemen, and T.F. Whittington. It was the toughest field of 20 I've seen in a long time. I just don't know why the field wasn't bigger. Tommy deserves it, and I want to see him succeed. The pool world needs more people like him.
I'll get off my soapbox now, but I really wish that someone could help me understand this tragedy that I witness when I show up for SE Open events. I'll continue to show up at his events (along with most any other event that takes place in the southeast), and I'm sure most of you will continue to show the support that pool deserves. I just thought to see if anyone has any comments.
