I've got a Viking F-99 (now discontinued), a basic cue that has served me well, I've decided I want to go with a low-deflection shaft. For the skeptics, yes I know, the cue doesn't make the man:D. I'm considering either buying a Predator sneaky pete (Uni-loc with a 314-2), or either putting a Predator or an OB-1 on my Viking.

The Viking has a quick-release implex-to-implex joint. I like how it hits although honestly I don't have too much to compare it with. I've tried a 314 on a Predator SP and I liked the way it hit too. I haven't tried an OB-1 but I'd be willing to try it out based on all of the reviews I've read. I may even be leaning that way if I decide to use the Viking since I'm kind of on the fence and want to try it. I don't think I could really go wrong either way. What do you think about using the Viking with one of these shafts? The lower cost is a factor but I'm trying not to let that sway me too much. Other opinions?
 
i've always been the one to go with having an extra cue just incase. i say go with the predator sneaky pete. only i'd go with the older version that way it's only slightly costs more than another shaft
 
i was in salt lake city back in 88 and didnt have my cue-i left in in the motel, i ended up in the pool hall in action and needed a cue, the guy i was with didnt want to go get my cue-it was my road cue just s-pete that someone cut but back to my point, some guy who had a small piece ofthe action offered me his cue it was an orange Viking-the ugliest cue i have ever seen, I put it together and took a few waRM-UP STROKES WITH IT AND wow!!!! that cue was magic, it played as good as any Szam, SW etc, i have ever played with, to this dat i wish i owned that cue, it was so ugly nobody would take you serious but it played perfect, I have told this story many times over the years, I have played with alot of Vikings since and owned a few, and I like how they play, for the $$$ Viking and Joss east are the best cues for the $$$$,

I played with a Joss east for 3 years everyday, i eventually sold it, mistake, but I went out about 2 months ago and bought another one and it plays the same, Vikings seem to vary from cue to cue a bit.

i hate low deflection shafts, i was talking with Tang Hoa the other day about it, and we both agree the cue dosent talk back to you, that is to say you cant feel the hit, so making adjustments is difficult, thats whats nice about G.Szams is the "Hit" you can feel the cue, same goes for SW, ginacue, etc., those shafts are making someone alot of $$$ and they are promoting them right-their numbers prove it but it ends there.

Considering what Ive learned about you, (from the threads and topics discussed) Id go with the Pred sneaky with the 314-2 shaft. Or use a 314-2 on your Viiking. The OB-1 is uncharted territiory for me, so I cant comment.

I hear alot about Pred Shafts feeling Dead, unless your using a sponge for Tip the shaft has feel. What you dont experiance is alot of Vibration, maybe this is what some players call feel? Hit? anyhow, GL!

If it were me I would go with the OB-1 shaft .
In talking with players this seems to be the better shaft.
I myself prefer a 13mm old growth hard rock maple shaft micarta ferrule with black pad and a hard kamui tip.
The control is alot better and I can spin the ball just as well if not better than these laminates do !! Money wise there about the same and you don't have to worry about glue seperation..
