Help needed to create pool league schedule

I need to come up with a schedule for a 14 team league for our club league pool season. Here is my scenario. We have 6 clubs that each have 2 teams each and 2 clubs with only 1 team each. I want to make it so that the clubs with 2 teams are not scheduled to play home games or away games at the same time, meaning I can't have the 2 teams from the same club at home on the same night unless they are playing each other. In addition I would like it so that any certain team is not scheduled for more than 2 weeks in a row at home or away. I hope this explination is understandable and that someone can provide a link or an excel spreadsheet for what I need. I am desperate as the league starts soon. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kevin

Stuckart thanks for the suggestion. I may try this if nobody else is able to help. I figure that there is someone here that is pretty slick with excel and can create a shedule based on team numbers 1-14. Time will tell.

Thanks

Kevin
i have something
now i just have to find it
it was a schedule i downloaded from a soccer league
they had it setup from 4 teams to 20 if i recall
lemme start looking

If you have Microsoft Excel, I have a spreadsheet I downloaded that works REALLY well. Makes it easy for your scenario. I can email you the spreadsheet and you can check it out. Just PM me your email address. We had a similar problem in our league.

In the past our womens league has taken and split the the team roster into two divisions...A and B. We typically did a blind draw as to which team went into which division...however, when 2 teams from the same location were involved, once the first team was drawn, the other team was automatically moved to the other division. Worked out great with no conflicts...just making sure that when ever one team was playing at home, the other team was away.

During the season...only teams from A division would play other teams from A division...likewise, obviously, for B division. Same went for play-offs. So, at the end of the season, there were awards for the top teams in each division for the season, and again for play-offs. If you like, then you could have a 'master' play-off for the top team in each division. This allowed the opportunity for more 'winners' overall...making everyone happy...even if the prizes awarded were a bit smaller.

Since you have 14 teams, it would be an even split with no BYEs. Should you pick up an extra team, then you just throw a BYE into the blind draw...and whatever division it happens to land in is the one with the BYE in their schedule.

By assigning each team a number prior to the draw, it made making out the actual schedule for season play much easier to keep track of.

Sorry if this sounds confusing..it really isn't...it has been working for this league for its 40yrs of existence.

Here is a table from the "Berger pairing tables" listed on
http://www.tournamentdirector.co.uk/

The home team is listed first in each match.

1 1:14 2:13 3:12 4:11 5:10 6:9 7:8
2 14:8 9:7 10:6 11:5 12:4 13:3 1:2
3 2:14 3:1 4:13 5:12 6:11 7:10 8:9
4 14:9 10:8 11:7 12:6 13:5 1:4 2:3
5 3:14 4:2 5:1 6:13 7:12 8:11 9:10
6 14:10 11:9 12:8 13:7 1:6 2:5 3:4
7 4:14 5:3 6:2 7:1 8:13 9:12 10:11
8 14:11 12:10 13:9 1:8 2:7 3:6 4:5
9 5:14 6:4 7:3 8:2 9:1 10:13 11:12
10 14:12 13:11 1:10 2:9 3:8 4:7 5:6
11 6:14 7:5 8:4 9:3 10:2 11:1 12:13
12 14:13 1:12 2:11 3:10 4:9 5:8 6:7
13 7:14 8:6 9:5 10:4 11:3 12:2 13:1

The neat thing about this spreadsheet is it is color coded. I believe you can generate up to 26 rows. Each row will have a matching opposite row. Take the following example for 6 teams.

You place teams in pairs. I call them sister teams.
G = Green Y = Yellow
1. G5 Y2 G4 Y6 G3
2. Y3 G1 G6 Y5 G4
3. G2 Y6 G5 Y4 Y1
4. G6 Y5 Y1 G3 Y2
5. Y1 G4 Y3 G2 Y6
6. Y4 G3 Y2 G1 G5

Based on colors the rows match up as follows:

1 opposite row 5
2 opposite row 4
3 opposite row 6

Using the columns as weeks, using green (G) this converts to:

Week 1 1-5 3-2 4-6
Week 2 2-1 5-4 6-3
Week 3 1-4 2-6 3-5
Week 4 4-3 5-2 6-1
Week 5 1-3 2-4 6-5

This means that when one team is at home the sister team is away. Flip flop for the second half as the season using yellow.

Week 6 2-3 5-1 6-4
Week 7 1-2 3-6 4-5
Week 8 4-1 5-3 6-2
Week 9 1-6 2-5 3-4
Week 10 3-1 4-2 5-6

Of course you can refresh the spreadsheet to generate any number of schedules at random.
