HELP! Restoring 2x4 RON THOMAS case!!!

I just got a 2x4 Ron Thomas case that I purchased but it needs a little TLC. It is an older one I believe and is the rust lizard i believe.

Things that need to be fixed:
-Snap on side of lid that attaches it to the case needs to be replaced

-Leather shoulder strap is missing

-Long bottom pocket needs stitched together because there is a hole at the bottom where the stitching has come undone.

I am looking for any kind of help pointing me in the direction of someone who could repair this stuff for me or even a whole case restoration price. Pictures would probably help so I will take some tonight and have them available tomorrow. I sent Ron a message but have not heard back from him yet. Any help is appreciated thanks alot guys hope we can get this case repaired.

From your description of the problems, it will most likely cost more than the case is worth to fully repair the damage.

I suggest you call Ron. I met him this week at SBE and what a great guy. I'm sure he would tell you straight about repairing an old case.

The basic problem with this type of case when it comes to repairs is that the repairing it generally means a complete tear down and rebuild which is more work than building a new case.

However here are my answers to your problems as I understand them.

Snap: If it's the lid snap then this is pretty easy to fix with a new part. Tandy Leather and Hobby Lobby both sell kits for $8 which should provide you with the correct one.

Strap: If you just need a new strap and the d-rings are intact then it's fairly easy to get a strap made. Again Tandy Leather can provide you with the material and the snaps. Ron should be able to make a new one easily for you.

Bottom Pocket: This is a problem because the stitching was done when the pocket was not attached. I am not sue what you mean exactly though. The pocket is sewn in three places. The corners, the zipper and the bottom of the pocket is sewn to the body. If it's the corners then you can get inside and resew it but that's going to be a real pain. My advice is to sew it up from the outside and the thread will be hardly noticeable.

If it's the zipper that can be replaced with hand sewing.

If the pocket has come loose from the body then there is no way to resew that. You best bet there is to use some good contact cement and follow the directions EXACTLY. If you do that then the bond will be stronger than sewing and you won't need to worry about it.
