help w/ buying tools

There is an old saying that goes: If it is easy it won't be cheap, and if it is cheap it won't be easy. I have sold many short pieces of my dovetail bed and a steady rest to mount behind the lathe for $125. Collets to protect shaft in headstock chuck $9 per set. That makes it real easy but not cheap.

It sounds like the thread starter is as "green" as I am so as a fellow novice, but one who has some experinece with the azbilliards forums, I recommend... I STRONGLY recommend (!), that you buy this guys book and video as well as his additions for your free lathe. Having done this you can then count on his expertise to guide you. I've never heard anybody say anything negative about his products, his skills or his character and when I get ready to make the move from using my shaft spinner to a real lathe he'll be the guy I go to for what I need. No worries when you make that decision.
