Help with a finish problem

Yesterday I put on a seal coat on a cue with West System. Left it overnight and sanded it down today. Tonight I put on several CA coats and immediately sanded it down to 2000 grit and was preparing to polish it when I noticed it had lifted a bit at the rear of the forearm. Found I could scrape off the finish off with my thumbnail with little effort. Went and had a beer, actually two and went back at it and found the CA had hardened up substantially. From that I guessed that the beer break had given the CA time to cure. ??Still have to get it back to square one and start over but wanted to know if I could get help on where I screwed up. Wrong seal coat? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Interesting is that the butt end is fine. Happy with that. Not at all happy with the forearm.Having another beer.

time

Always, always, always let it sit overnight to cure. Then you won't have problems. Also - make sure that when you are applying it, that you run the paper over the ends and onto the shoulder and face of the piece.

What kind of wood? Which hardener did you use for the West, also did you happen to wipe the cue down before starting to put CA? How many coats of CA before you started sanding? Did you use an accelerator? Sounds like you didn't give it enough time to set also you probably were burning through while sanding.

You need to let the West system sit for 3 days at least. A week is best before sanding.

It really takes that long to stop curing and moving.

Trust me on this one.............. it has taken me 5 years to learn this.
