Yup. One of the sort of generic better ones but not best. Upper/mid grade I would say. Such cues were sold under numerous brand names. That butt cap material was seen on cues marked Pr. I have notes on them somewhere, maybe a catalog pic. Not sure if weight bolt was the same or not, but that's the closest brand in my memory.basic chinese import.
Prob shoulda said 'generic asian'. i lump all these basic imports together. i had a few yrs ago and have no clue if they were chin/taiwan/japan built. they all looked alike and played alike. this one has nice points.Closest match I have is Penn-Ray. I have one example myself, with no points.
Made in Japan, 1984-1989, by Adam, on behalf of a company called Penn-Ray Sutra Corp, P.O. Box 1088, Bensalem, Pa. 19020.
"Penn-Ray Sutra Corp." was a trade name owned by the WICO Distribution Corp, of Illinois. They made pool cue blanks with "WICO points", among other pool cue parts. These are a Full-Splice cues when they have points, with the typical cheap ferrule (plastic), and le-pro tip. They had a 5/16x18 stainless pin. Also found they may have been a subsidiary of a UK company at some point.

The one PR that I have is pretty well made. The quality range of Asian cues is huge. There were some very low end Adam cues, and KaoKao made some very good cues on their higher end.Prob shoulda said 'generic asian'. i lump all these basic imports together. i had a few yrs ago and have no clue if they were chin/taiwan/japan built. they all looked alike and played alike. this one has nice points.
Best lo-buck Asian cue i've ever seen/hit were those TaiCan Licos SW-copies. Built very well and played great. The one i hit i liked better than the real thing. Sacrilege??? Maybe but that's how i saw it. The MIT cues by Nelson Tsai(he co-started KaoKo, founded Fury) are also super nice. I don't think MIT is still making their SW style cues. Really nice cues. The one PR that I have is pretty well made. The quality range of Asian cues is huge. There were some very low end Adam cues, and KaoKao made some very good cues on their higher end.
Making sense and keeping track of the various brand names etc is a tremendous puzzle. I have a bone in my head that loves researching and collecting information so chasing this stuff is fun. It as nothing to do with the desirability, collectability, or quality of the cues.
This cue has nice points and traditional design. I like it. The one I have is plain, no points, rings, or inlays. The pics I posted were example pics I found on my drive, not my cue. I would buy one like the one posted with points if I could get it cheap, like 50 to 100. I like having nice examples of a brand.
I still kick myself for not grabbing one of those when they were common as dirt brand new and cheap.Best lo-buck Asian cue i've ever seen/hit were those TaiCan Licos SW-copies.
