I moved to a small northern town and joined the pool league. We have 4 -4person teams and play a standard 16 game league night on 2 7ft. valley bar boxes. I am now running the league but I am also the strongest player and I have won the league both years and my team has won both years. The league has 3 strong players and the rest are very weak, there is no way to have 4 competitive teams so I am looking for a format for next year to try and make it more competitive without handicapping it so much that it doesn't make sense, any ideas for a different format??? thanks Sam.

16 players into 4 teams doesn't give much cushion if someone drops out. Have you thought about Scotch Doubles, or Doubles? Having 8 teams instead of 4 could make it easier to handicap. Also, its easier to add on a team of 2 than to fill a team roster for 4.
Another idea is to play the league as individuals. If you want to add a team aspect, how about letting the players set up virtual teams (like fantasy football)? That could open up interest and participation to people not playing in the league.

Pick the 4 weakest players as team captains and hold a draft.
Would you not want the 4 strongest so they are not all on the same team and can actually have the knowledge to captain?
There is a Snookers league in RI that is pretty popular and the teams are basically chosen that way, the top players that want to play are set as captains, then the teams are randomly chosen outside of that.
