Help with thoughts about an old Antique billiards cue?

I found this old Billiards cue, that looks really interesting to me.

I have seen similar antique Brunswick cues, but this is not a Brunswick.

It has some sort of Asian characters on the Splice, near the rubber bumper..

I also bet that all of the White in this cue is Natural material, but I do not know.

It just looks really interesting to me.

Thanks for any thoughts..

I’m not an expert but I have converted and restore ancient Brunswick cues and “old rock” is a fitting name for them, in a good way. I’m always amazed by the dense grain pattern from the lumber that was available in those days.

That is really cool. The shaft wood sure does look old on it. I am far from an expert though, lol. I do however know what garbage shaft wood looks like. I was always fascinated by these old Antique Billiards cues. I would be shocked if the cue were straight though.

Curious, what might you do to restore something like this? Would you refinish it? Build a new shaft for it? Just curious what people have done to old cues like this. Thanks.

If the cue wood is stable (no cracks or loose parts), do nothing to it except a possible new tip.

This. I do as little as possible (largely because of my low skill and laziness, but also because if it’s not broke, don’t fix it). Lots of the old cues were 56” one piece, so sometime if they are warped you can combine 2 to make a two peice 58” cue.
