im going to order a new custom, but i cant seem to come up with the right wood combo.i like ebony, cocobolo, curly maple, and burl. the problem is my current cue has a curly maple handle with coco point and an ebony forearm. im looking for suggestions on what woods i can use that will look right. i was thinking curly points, ebony forearm, with coco handle, but that wont look right. any suggestions or pictures are greatly appreciated. joey

Joey- what about this; ebony butt sleeve, curly maple forearm w/ebony points, a cocabola handle with 3- 1/4" curly maple rings to help break up the dark handle!! (kind of like the DZ cue just posted recently)

JOEY...i HAVE YOUR NEXT CUE!!

CHECK THIS IDEA OUT! HOW ABOUT: CURLY MAPLE FOREARM AND BUTTSLEEVE. BURL HANDLE AND BUTTCAP.(VERY SIMPLE AND CLASSY) (4) LONG COCOBOLO POINTS AND (4) SHORT EBONY POINTS IN FOREARM. IN BUTTSLEEVE EITHER USE SAME CONCEPT OR SWITCH THE WOODS. (4) LONG EBONY POINTS IN BUTTSLEEVE AND (4) SHORT COCOBOLO POINTS. i PERSONALLY WOULD KEEP THE (4) LOCG COCOBOLO POINTS AND (4) SHORT EBONY MYSELF!! GOOD LUCK. HOPE i HELPED A LITTLE. DESIGNING CUES IS MY TRUE PASSION TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR HELP. IT'S WHAT i DO!! :D :D

duke, i like your suggestion on the cue. what type of burl do you think should go in the handle? .... joey

you think thst the ironwood will look right? is there a lighter color burl? i just think that might look better. thanks again, joey

Ebony forearm with 4 remachined points. The points would be maple points with cocobolo point back into the maple. The butt would be the same with reversed points. (I just built a cue with a butt with this scenerio but with some inlay). Or you could do the same scenerio (if you want to spend more bucks) and do 6 points (3 high 3 low) in both forearm and butt. The handle would be maple - I would do a highly figured birdseye - and do rings above and below the handle. Now what kind of burl is it that you like - what color of brown is it? Desert Ironwood is pretty but it may clash with the cocobolo. You could possibly have small inlays or rings made with the burl material.
