Man, I'd hate to do a turn-down on one of those.
Probably the easiest way to go about what you want done is to whack it in half
where you want it cut and epoxy a 4-6" snug fitting dowel in each end and go from there.
If you wanted to be clever, you could add some collars and ring-work though it wouldn't be necessary.
Probably best to keep it a sneaky.

Put a eye hook on the end, loop a wire thru it and make yourself a rattlesnake catcher.
