Instead of Barry adding $50,000 of his own money to the US Open, he should only add $10,000. That way all the players could get paid at the tournament like they have requested. Then this boycott would end... or would the players now be mad that they got paid right away but Barry made to much money off them?

Amazing that no one has ever thought of that before.....

Barry has already adamantly stated that he will not raise the entry fees, and will not lower the prize fund. The only solution is to set a date after the tournament that the players have to be paid by, and the players agree to that.

IMO, Barry should lower the Guaranteed added to $25,000 but Guarantee $50,000 added or even $75,000 added if certain criteria are met or BASED on.

#1. Full Field of 256 player
#2. The Gate brings in XXX Amount
#3. The Advertising / Sponsorships, Booth Revenues or sales reach XXX amount
#4. The PPV and or TV Rolayties reach XXX Amout
#5. The Kickbacks from the hotels and food service reach XXX Amount.

By doing this it would make the players sort of a partner in the event and it would be in there best interest to help promote the event in any way they could.

If I was doing this event and I was up against the obstacles Barry is that is exactly what I would do as it would be a WIN-WIN for all involved.

another point

But then the top pros would cry it wasnt worth the entry fee anymore.

That brings up another point, all the past winners who are boycotting ( for the future of the game? ) should tell Barry " from now on we will pay our $ 500 if you place that in escrow with the prize $. Who else gives them lifetime free entry?Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.I still feel this is all because of one over inflated ego that is still bitter about not being consulted during 911. WAKE UP players this is the longest running tournament in the U.S that you are Harpooning!

Just a suggestion......

If the players and Barry want huge money added why don't they the ABP players help out the US OPEN like this.
Add $50 to all entry fees throughout the year at every tournament.
This money is held out of all event paybacks then added to the US OPEN. With 128 player fields that's $6,400 with 10 event through the year they would have an extra $64,000 add to the Open.
With this money added to this event Barry would not have to add as much as he does.
Then the ABP and Barry could work out a deal where they, the players and Barry could split up the money from vendors, door. ppv ect.
Could be a win win for all.:welcome:

If the players persist in this destructive boycott, then next year Barry should consider reducing the money added out of his pocket. Or perhaps even cancel the 2012 US Open.

This confrontational relationship between the ABP and Barry is not helping our sport.

In Barry's defense, (and I have never met him) he is definitely one of the top 5 people that have done the most for pool in the United States over the last 35 years.

In the players defense, Barry should not let his pride get in the way and promise something that he cannot promptly deliver.

Please just cut the added money down to $25,000, guarantee all prize money to be paid on the final day off the tournament and keep the best US pool tourney going strong!
