I just got done cleaning my cues for the night when I heard a strange sound coming from one of them. Turns out, I broke the stainless steel joint on the cue I was using to break with tonight. My legacy of broken cues continues. I wonder, what's the record number through normal wear and tear. So far I'm at 5 in just over 2 years. Are there no cues able to withstand the beating I put them through?

Sounds like your cleaning supplies and or method may be too strong.

A cue used normally should last a lifetime if it's made well.

I can't count the times I have had people tell me their cue "just broke all by itself" and come to find out they used it to train for the Olympic Javelin toss every time they got behind in a set.

SS joint

If the joint was well made, the only way to break it is not to have it tightened all the way.

John,

It didn't break all by itself. Our illustrious thread starter Drew has the fastest recorded break speed in the history of pool. 50mph according to Drew himself! It's an honor to have such an individual among our ranks.

Break

That extra 12 mph would be a feat since George Breedlove's 38 mph break is the highest recorded break record for any player, and that was a 1 time thing. The other 2 were 31 and 33 something.

I think you broke 5 cues because of bad form or technique and not because you break 50mph. Maybe you do break hard but not 50. Not even close. Them fat house cues should last, try those.
