This is the cue that Jimmy used to come out of retirement and win the US Open in 1967. Basically a double elimination format, he lost the first match an then went on to win 11 straight. This includes beating Lassiter twice at the end.

The case was made by Herman Rambow for Jimmy's first cue, and was made sometime in the 20's.

Wow, that is an awesome cue and case! Is there still a brunswick emblem on the butt, can't tell from this pic?

Joe, great piece of cue history. There might be some extra interest in this one, as it could be the one pictured in Jimmy Caras' book on billiards, originally written in 1948, then reprinted in 1966 and 1969. The reprintings probably contained the photos lacking in the first one, though I'm not sure.

Here are the best pictures in the book of Jimmy playing with his Rambow. I can't be certain that it's the same one, but I think it is, looking at the buttsleeve length, ivory ring width, and separation between the points at the wrap. My opinion is that it's the same cue, but other opinions would be welcome. The book is very small, hard to scan good pics. But this is one great piece of cue history. Hope this helps.

Really brings home the idea of the archer being considerably more important than the arrow---an he wore glasses to boot!
