Have you ever locked horns with Marvin Henderson?..an old-timer where I'm from told me that Marvin played about Cliff's speed..any truth to that?

Any thoughts on Marvin?

Marvin was a great player but he got hit by a car and was never the same after that and he struggled with women and alcohol problems most of his life. He also played a pretty nice game of three cush.

If I ever compile a list of the dumbest things I ever did playing pool for money, my encounter with Marvin Henderson would be up there somewhere. In the early to mid 60's I worked in Southgate, CA and would play in a pool room on Tweedy Blvd. that had some action. The night man was a guy named Frenchy who would gamble some. We were playing a three handed 9 ball ring game and the third player was a black guy I did not know. I ended up busting the game and he said he would like to play some more but needed a ride to get more money. Instead of going home with the money, I said "I'll give you a ride". Of course he busted me. I next saw him at Five Points Bowl giving Filipino Dado 9 to 7 and getting the cash. I wasn't much of a 9 ball player, but was way out of line in that spot.
