surprised you like the SE and Hoyt better.i am always reading how good these Varney's are and how they are the best j/b's out there.i actually have one coming in thise week that i just bought off cubswin here.i read all the hype and had to try one out.hopefully i will have a better experience than you had with yours.

well i am a big shannon the cannon fan, an i like the wrap for breaking too....kinda low on funds so something has to go:(

price??

how much are you asking for it?

price would help also so that you can recieve some reasonable offer that might help you budget.

If I'm not mistaken...thats Leonard's (poolcuemaster) old & very used cue. I believe it has a thinner shaft, shorter jump handle, and NO phenolic/canvas resin tip or ferrule. The tip is a Xhard Talisman installed by Leonard.
While there is nothing wrong with this cue...I just want to be honest & make everyone aware that this cue is in no way a representative of the performance of my newer, more current j/b cues.
I will upgrade the tip/ferrule to my current canvas-resin at no charge to whomever buys this cue...and even offer a new shaft at a reduced rate.
This is exactly why I now turn down many offers to build j/b cues to other than my current specs.;) :)

Hey guys I used to own this cue and had to change the tip from Kevins phenolic factory tip to a hard BK break tip from Tallisman about three years ago to be legal in some of the tournaments I played in and found out that it breaks great. I found out that I could break and play with that tip even though I like the medium tips better for playing, it jumps well but might jump better with a phenolic tip. I'm sure that Kevin will put a phenolic tip back on the shaft very cheap if you send it to him, I am still using a Varney just fancier and thicker.

Leonard

Got any more specs?

Do you have the overall specs.... the length, weight, balance point and size of the tip/ferrule? :)

Send a pm to poolcuemaster...he'll know more about the cue than anyone.;)

I know I have been one of the biggest Varney critics out there in the past. In fact, I've been responsible for a lot of Varney flame threads.

But here's the deal.

You post a price for this cue (cash price; not a trade value) and if I think its reasonable, I will buy the cue.
Then, I'll give an honest (no bias of any kind) review of the cue. I'm never ashamed or afraid to admit when I'm wrong so if things work out here and that happens to be the case, I'll jump on the forums and sing Kevin's praises.

**Please note that in order for me to buy the cue, the price must be reasonable. There are modifications that need to be made to this cue as the tip needs to be changed and the finish is all but gone.**

On another note, I applaud you Kevin for being one of the few cuemaker's out there who would be so kind and so eager to please customer's that you would offer to replace the tip to the buyer free of charge. Hatts off.

Thats very kind of you...its clear you have my best interest at heart. Honestly I applaud your continued effort in doing another Varney review. Sad though that you'd like to do it on an older cue that has a thin shaft and I've already clearly stated that this cue is in NO way a representative of my newer more current cues. With your history of bashing me, I don't believe too many would care to read your thoughts on this particular cue. For those interested, there are many, many reviews that can be searched and read that were written by respected forum members such as Bogey54311, Bnall, Irish634 and many others. Also one can pm any of the above or any other Varney owner, or myself for information.
pharaoh68 if you'd like one of my j/b's I'd be happy to build you a new one or even put you on the list for one of the used ones I take in trade. But please, don't try to write an honest review on a poor example in bad condition thats been altered. I can not make myself more clear or be more honest.:)

i would be very interested in Pharoa's opinion.he is honest and trustworthy and i value his opinion just as much as most everyone here.i have one coming this week and if it is better for breaking than my BK2 i will keep it,but that is going to be a tough task as the BK2 is a dedicated and well made break cue.everyone knows it is basically as good as you can get unless you get lucky and find a cutom j/b that just happens to be the Holy Grail of j/b's.my buddy has a gilbert that breaks as good as the BK2 for example.anyway if it does not break better than my BK2 i will sell it to you with a 3 day teturn if you don't like it clause,so you can try it out.i mail it to you,you try it,you keep it and pay or send it back and refund my shipping($15 or less for 2 day).i bought it for $300 and it is an '07 model so it should be in perfect shape for judging.i will PM you next week Pharoa,i will also write a reveiw if i like it.

I just replied to a pm about the cue and the best I can remember the tip was real close to 13 mm maybe as small as 12.85 and everyone that broke with it liked it but they all said that it felt light. I think in 2001 Kevin put on the phenolic tip combo and made the cue a little lighter for me as requested but I think it can be made heavier very quickly, heck try it you might like it I did and wish I still had it.

I tell you what, Kev. I appreciate that offer. And you make a good point. If this isn't the best example of your work, I'll wait for something that is. If you don't mind, put my name on the list for one of the trade-ins. I really would like to try it.

For the most part, I break with a house cue as its the best value. Solid as hell and it doesn't cost a dime!!! But unless you can jump with a full cue (and I can only jump half a ball with a full cue), a jump cue is needed. I became so reliant on a jump cue a long time ago that I had no kicking skills. So I sold it. Now I can kick like a mule but I can't jump because I have no jump cue!!!

So I'd love to be on the list and, to be honest, I'd love to be proven wrong. I hope he cue does play well.

And I meant what I said. That's a remarkable offer for you to replace the tip for free for whomever buys this cue. You don't see that in many cuemakers today.

Talk to you soon.

Regards,
Brian

No flame back? What the hell's got into you Brian? Did you suddenly take a toke of peace pipe or something??? :D

Pm sent sir.

WOW! i had no idea i was going to get this reply on this cue! i only want to get a fair price since i am short on cash right now. i was thinking 200 obo, and kevin and poolmaster do know the cue very well and i would say that it may need a break tip but i replaced the talisman tip with another tip(triangle i think but unsure it was just a older hard tip i had around) since the old tip was wore out and looked kinda loose on the ferrule, size wise it is under under 13mm. weight is 18.5 or 19 the ferrule is not perfect and it is slightly cone shaped, being smaller at the tip end, this is how it was when i got it. the finish could be redone to look top notch but its a really nice break cue still. i do not have my real digital cammera right now since my girlfriend took it out of town. i am asking $200 obo also i will trade it for a nice case.
thanks,
jimmy

Brian,

We still have a standing order for you to try my player when it's finished. I believe it is in progress. You can also try my J/B if you so choose. I hope you will be as pleased as the rest of us.
