Hideous carpets

What's with the carpets used in US tournaments? They look like the audience have collectively vomited on it.

How about some that look like they've been manufactured within the last 30 years?
 
I thought it was just me. All the casinos have this gaudy stuff. I think it must be selected due to some psychological reason dealing with gambling.

Or, some drunk could puke on it and it would add to the colors and blend in.

The carpet is almost always what is already installed in the venue. They don't build a hotel and buy new caprpet to hold a tournament.
 
I'm assuming you're talking about the carpet at DCC and other carpets when pool is played in a casino venue.

Marketing Psychology 101. Most people look down at an angle towards the floor when they walk. Carpets in casinos are purposely unappealing to the eye so when people walk they look around at the slot machines/table games instead of looking down.
 
Thread title sounds like a law guaranteeing a prisoner their time in front of a judge...

Yeah, casino carpet is pretty terrible. I think the patterns help the drunks know they are in motion and in which direction they are stumbling.
 
Public places use multi pattern and color carpet so wear, stains, dirt and traffic patterns aren't as noticable. There are many theories on using colors and patterns to influence people's decisions, moods and etc.
